Message from the Headteacher

Our school is closed today for our staff training day, but this does not mean that our week has been any less busy, though, with even more of our children going out on trip this week as part of their Arts Fortnight work. We also still have lots of exciting and engaging trips coming up in the final weeks of term as we make sure that all of our children take part in these enriching experiences to support their learning in school. This is an area that we will be developing even further next year as we will be aiming to set out all of the school trips for each year group at the start of the year, including any costs, so that families can have this information well in advance. We also hope to be able to include even more trips, workshops and special events and look forward to sharing this with you all.

We can also share with you the dates of our Sports Days! These are really exciting days for the children (especially given the lack of them during COVID years) and we hope that lots of you will be able to come along for parts of the events to cheer our children along.

  • Tuesday 5th July - morning = KS1 (in school)

  • Wednesday 6th July - morning = Years 3 and 4 (at Meridian Sports Ground)

  • Wednesday 6th July - morning = EYFS (in school)

  • Thursday 7th July - morning = Years 5 and 6 (at Meridian Sports Ground)

SCHOOL JOURNEY

Year 6 had a fantastic residential to the Gordon Brown centre. We had some great activities that required us to work collaboratively in teams as well as challenging ourselves and facing our fears.

We started off our week meeting some animals that we had to feed every morning. We completed a trim trail and had the opportunity to try archery. Some of us had never held a bow and arrow before but were able to hit the bullseye every time. Every day the weather was incredible and we really enjoyed soaking up the sun.

One of our fondest memories was the blind trail, we had to rely on the trust we have for our peers to guide us in the right direction. We cooled ourselves down in the hot sun by having plenty of water fights with both our friends and teachers.

The full viking experience was an incredible memory. We learned how vikings lived and the impact they have had on our life and the world around us. We found out about how they used their battle tactics against their opponents which was eye-opening.

One evening, we went on a night walk where we heard a scary story! Some of us struggled to sleep that night. We had a camp fire towards the end of the week with hot chocolate and biscuits, followed by star gazing. Even though the journey back was a long one, we had an incredible time and we will never forget these moments for the rest of our lives.

HOME JOURNEY

Even though we didn’t attend the School Journey at the Gordon Brown Centre we still had an incredible time back at school. We started the week by finding out that we would be performing a flash mob dance in front of the whole of key stage 2 in the middle of the playground. We had to use our school value of resilience during the practice because it was tricky to remember all the moves.

In between rehearsals we started to work on the art section to our Arts Fortnight outcome. We began thinking about memories we have of Foxfield and where in the school those fond memories took place and captured them using our brand new photography skills. Once captured, we turned the photos into sketches and some of us were able to turn them into impressionist pieces.

As a part of our week we also had some excellent days out. On Wednesday we traveled on the brand new Elizabeth Line to the Science Museum. Some memorable moments were finding out about medicine in the past and how it has developed and helps us today. On Friday, during the hot weather, we had an amazing morning on Plumstead Common playing a variety of sports and relaxing in the shade.

Finally, throughout the week we were able to begin a Year 6 tradition. We painted a mural in the key stage 2 playground that sends a positive message to the younger children in the school and gives them an idea of what they have to look forward to in the future.

Reminders

  • Parental conduct: As a school, we have very high expectations around behaviour and conduct for children and staff which we strive for at all times. We also have a clear expectation around how we interact with parents and how they should interact with us in return. Unfortunately, we have recently had a number of occasions where Foxfield staff have been verbally abused by adults in our community and this is not acceptable. All staff have the right to work in a safe environment and to be shown respect at all times. Please see this 'Code of Conduct' document which all parents sign when their child starts with us to be reminded of the expectations.

  • The school is closed to children on Friday 24th June 2022 for an INSET day.

  • Term finishes on Friday 22nd July
