With that said if students are bring Halloween candy in their lunch boxes, please only send a small amount. Lots of unhealthy options lead decreased focus and tired bodies and minds. It makes it hard from students to get through the school day! I like to recommend two little chocolate bars or a bag of chips.

Hi Folks,
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend! Kindergarten teachers across PEI got to meet Friday in Summerside. We had the oppourtinity to talk about practices happening in our classrooms and discussed lots of ways to help deliver the kindergarten curriculum through play!
This week, I would like to welcome a new student Inara to our classroom. We look forward to getting to know her and students are excited to build a new friendship.
Please note that I will be out on Tuesday Octoboer 14th for appointments but Ms. Murray will be in.
In class we are:
Literacy: We are now into week four of Fundations. Students will be introduced to the letters c and o. We will be reading lots of books with rhymes and students will continue to work on identifiying the words "the" and "to" in print. We will do some writing (currently our writing is pictures and telling others what our pictures are about).
Students have been excited about learning to read. One student approached me at 8:20 am last week. "Ms. Sarah, when are we going to read?" I let the student know that there was time to read right now but we will also have time later in the day. (Currently our reading is viewing books, noticing letters and telling a story based on the pictures). This student then replied, while shaking the book. "NO! When will I be able to read the words in this book?!" I found this very adorable and explained I was happy to hear how eager students are to learn to read but we need to know our letters and the sounds they make first!
Letters: t,b,f,n,m,i,u, c, a
Words: the, to
Math: This week we will focus on representing the number 5, printing the number and we will practice counting to ten.
Humanities: We will work on zones of regulation and strategies to get back to the green zone (ready to learn, calmer body, content state). We will also talk about our families.
Book Buddies.
We will have book buddies next Monday.
Cool Kids Care Club
Many grade two students participate in the Cool Kids Care Club. Part of what they do is fundraise. This month they are doing a jelly bean guessing jar. Each ballot is 0.50 cents. Students are welcome to take in money, this week, and make a guess!

September 22 welcomes the first day of fall! This means we will start doing fall art, fall inspired sensory pins and we will welcome cooler and wetter days. With that said, please ensure your child has appropriate clothing for the weather. This is a time of year when we need to bring the splash pants and rain coats back out. Keep those light mittens handy and know where the warmer hats are (cool days will sneak up fast).
This week will be a busy week. We will start to read stories around the indigenous culture and stories that help students gain an understanding as to why we honour "Orange Shirt day"
In class we are:
Literacy: We are now into week one of Fundations. Student have been introduced to the letters t, b and f.
We will continue to develop our fine motor skills and will read stories that support Orange Shirt Day/Every Child Matters.
Math: We have covered the numbers zero and one. This week we will study the number two and will increase our accuracy when counting to ten.
Humanities: The next few weeks we will be focusing on the social studies unit that covers the unique qualities of each child/family. This is very much an inclusion piece. With that, if your family has any special tranditions or holidays they celebrate, we would love to celebrate with you! Please let me know of the holidays you participate in and we will honor those in class (ie. Eid, Holi, Lunar New Year etc.). If your child does not participate in certain holidays/activities (ie. Christmas, Easter, birthday) please let me know and we can discuss appropriate adjustments!

Shoe Laces
It is expected that all students independently change their own footwear. If your child can not tie their shoes, please provide them with shoe laces that do not require tying or velcro. This is for two reasons. Frist and foremost, the child's safety (not tripping over their shoe laces, especially on the stairs) and to ensure my time is spent on the kindergarten curriculum and not tying/retying shoes.

I hope all your littles have recovered from their first full week of school! It was a busy one and they are starting to adjust well to the school routines.
Please feel free to follow the class on instagram @msriehl. last week was busy but I will try to start posting more pictures soon (no faces or names).
Please ensure your child comes comes with their water bottles full, this would be greatly appreciated. Students will also need a snack and a lunch each day. Students are working hard to learn how to put away their own lunch bags. This includes putting containers back in, zipping up and returning it to their school bag at the end of the day. I help with corners and will guide them through the process. Please note, some steps the children miss and could result in some interesting ways to repack! They will figure it out soon!

Hi KE families!!!
We had a good first few days in KE! Children were excited to see some familiar faces in close by classes and are becoming familiar with the class and school! The next couple of weeks our in class focus will be on building relationships and learning routines.
It is important to know that we currently have 2 staff working in the class. Myself (Ms. Sarah) and an EA (Ms. Cass). If there are any more changes regarding staff in our class, I will let you know!
If students could come with their water bottles full, this would be greatly appreciated. Students will also need a snack and a lunch each day.
I will try to notify and inform students and families of any of dates when I will be out of class. Usually these are PD days and I know in advance. However, there are times I am out unexpectedly. If there is any changes in your child’s afterschool routines, please ensure you call the school so the message gets properly delivered.
We will be welcoming a two second year nursing students into our class next week. They are here to watch child development and will do a few lessons with your children (usually around handwashing, garbage sorting, nutrition). I will update you with names as soon as possible.
