Welcome December!   Thank you for attending parent-teacher interviews.  It was wonderful to meet with you and discuss your child's progress.  For this upcoming week, I will not be at school.  Ms. Devos will be teaching 5A from Monday to Friday.   It is important that you call the school office at 902-368-6950, if your child is absent or you have any messages that need to be dealt with before my return.   Learning Reports will go home Friday, December 1.

November 12 & 13

Thanks to those of you who responded quickly to parent-teacher interview times.  If you have not sent back your form, please email me at jxparsons@edu.pe.ca to confirm or change the time. 


It is important for students to arrive on time for school.  O Canada and announcements are at 8:25 and we begin our day promptly afterwards at 8:30. There are students arriving late and missing the announcements and first directions of the day.   This also interrupts the learning of others.  I would appreciate your support with making sure your child is on time.   Please reach out if I can support you in any way with this.


Water bottles - many students are coming to school daily without a filled water bottle.  Please make sure your child brings a water bottle to school every day as we do not have access to a drinking fountain, only a water filling station.   I have been giving out paper cups but starting Monday, November 6,  I will only allow these to be used during our eating times. 


5A was successful in winning a pizza party for all of the batteries that were brought in to recycle. Thank you to those who supported this cause. We will have a free pizza lunch on November 23.   I will provide a healthy and not-so healthy dessert treat option for this day.   If your child is happy with that, you

do not need to provide lunch on this day.

On Monday, November 6,  Prince Street School is fortunate to have the opportunity to watch one of the World Under 17 Hockey games.   Your child will need to have a nut-free packed lunch for this day because we will be at the rink during lunch time.  The canteen will be open for students.    Please do not send any more than $10 - $15 or feel that you must send money.  I recommended to the students that they bring their own nut-free treats and use up some of their Halloween candy.

On Tuesday, October 31, we will be having Halloween activities.  Students are invited but not required to wear costumes without masks.   If you wish to send a nutritional and nut-free treat, it is welcome!

We value the importance of play in the growth and development of our students.   This year we are going to be heading outdoors during recess times in all kinds of weather.  Please make sure that your child is dressed to be outside in every kind of weather.  If you need help with supplying appropriate outdoor apparel, please contact the school as we may be able to help.

Just a reminder that homework expectations are the same each week.  Students should read nightly and complete the log, study spelling words and practice multiplication facts. It is very important that homework bags come to school each day.  


There is a fundraiser taking place at the school. If you have any old batteries laying around please send them in! The class who has the most batteries will win a pizza party!

Math -  decimal check-in on representing decimal tenths, hundredths, thousandths in standard, word, and expanded forms

Writing - working on our RECOUNT writing unit and creating a good copy of a diary entry, word work,  spelling test Friday

Reading - continuing our read aloud and building strategies to increase stamina and written comprehension

Science - The cell


It is important for students to arrive on time for school to have time to prepare for our learning day and hear our first set of directions. 

  O Canada and announcements are on at 8:25 and we begin our day promptly afterwards at 8:30. Thank you for cooperation with this. 


Please send your child with a filled water bottle every day.   We have access to a water filling station, there is no drink fountain.  It is also essential that your child bring cutlery for lunch, the school does not supply these things.

We had a wonderful week of learning!    Thanks for the great support with homework.  Please remind your child that homework bags and water bottles are to come to school every day. If students haven’t brought their indoor shoes and headphones,  please try to send these things on Tuesday.

Information for September 25 - 29

It is important for students to arrive on time for school, having time to get settled prepares them for their upcoming day.  Announcements are at 8:25 and we begin our learning day at 8:30. Thank you for cooperation with this.  

This week we will be adding Math Facts practice to our homework.   Also I will be sending information on how to use IXL math at home.   Students are encouraged to log in and complete 1 outcome each night. 

If students haven’t brought in their indoor shoes and headphones,  please try to send these things on Monday. 

Please note that I don’t have a microwave in my class.  Please double check to make sure that your child has a spoon or fork in their lunches.  Water bottles should come to school daily. Thanks for your support with this.

The Terry Fox Run/Walk will be held in the afternoon of Friday, October 6th. In order to raise funds to donate to this worthy cause, students are invited to purchase a freezie for 50 cents. Please send in 50 cents (maximum of 1 freezie per student) on or before Tuesday, October 2nd. Students will enjoy the freezie on the day of the walk. In addition, students will receive a ballot for a chance to win a Terry Fox t-shirt. Small, monetary donations also are accepted.
