Friday, January 28, 2022 - The 83rd day of school, day 5, and the last day of home learning
Good morning everyone! I hope everyone is feeling rested today. It looks like we are getting another storm tomorrow, so enjoy getting out today! You'll have even more snow after the weekend, too! So. Much. SNOW!!
Let's take attendance:
https://forms.gle/uBUSxqp1CgtECpVSA
Today is going to be a bit different. You can make it like a Free Write Friday, but in all your subjects! You don't have to do a day of school in the order or way you've been doing all along. You can if you like. If you choose to keep to that schedule, you can do some math (counting, number games, etc.), writing, and anything else you find on past days on our site. If I were to choose some activities today, I would choose to do some writing and some number practice. You could do some Music and Gym, if you like. But, I'll leave it up to you. You choose what you'd like to do today. What I would LOVE to see you do is this: Spend a little time with your family. Read together. Reading is so important. If you want to do some writing, make a thank you card or letter to those in your family who have been helping you with home learning. Without them, you wouldn't have been able to do all this! We have all worked as a team in our own houses these past few weeks. That's pretty amazing! I'm so very proud of you all. :)
We will still do our Google Meet at 10 a.m, for those who are able to come. And, we will also do a last Bedtime Story for you at 7. It's going to be from a new place tonight. I wonder if you can guess where I'll be.
See you at 10 a.m. everyone!
Love Ms. Stewart <3
Thursday, January 27, 2022 - The 82nd day of school and it's day 4
Good morning everyone! It was lovely to see so many of you at our bedtime story last night. We will have one last story on Friday evening, before you head back to school on Monday.
Let's take attendance:
https://forms.gle/LjjzULYQu4LSkshU7
We will start with Math today, as always. How did it go yesterday? Did you enjoy playing a game or two with someone? You are welcome to do that today and tomorrow, too, as part of your math. Math can always be fun, as long as we are practicing our numbers. You can also work on the document in Google Classroom, if you haven't finished it.
We've been praticing our numbers and some addition facts quite a bit during home learning. Today, let's try a bit of a review of subtraction. Do you remember doing that? It's been a while! Give this sheet a try:
After some math, it's time for our Google Meet and a snack break, if you're hungry. I'll see you there!
Next up, writing time. Yesterday, you wrote about your feelings. I'm really pleased so many of you gave that a try. Good for you. Continuing with that idea, today you can also write something to do with your feelings. When we've been working at home, I know you've had some helpers. Maybe it's been one person, or maybe it's been several. Today, think about who has been helping you. Write them a thank you! They will love to get that from you! You can draw them a picture and write them something to say thank you. You can keep it as simple as saying, "Thank you for helping me." Or, brainstorm all the ways you've had help and tell them. When you finish, you can give this to your helper. It will make them so happy! How does it feel to make someone else happy? It feels really good, doesn't it?
After writing, it's time for you recess and lunch. If you go outside for a break, be sure to bundle up! If we were at school, you'd be lining up at the door and I'd be checking to see that you all at your outside gear on. Mittens, hats, and coats zipped up! Bundle up! BRRR!
For the afternoon, you'll have Gym and Music (you pick how you'd like to do that today), Fundations and reading, in whatever order you'd like to do that. For reading, you can use any of the Links we've been using all along. If there's nothing new for you to read on one site, try another one. Or, read your actual books. Explore your options. You are doing such an incredible job with this. I'm really, really proud of all of you, students and families. :) I'm excited to read in person with you next week. :)
Here's the Fundations link:
Wednesday, January 26, 2022 - The 81st day of school and it's day 3
NOTE: We will have a Bedtime Story Google Meet at 7 p.m. this evening, for those who can make it.
Good morning friends! I hope everyone is feeling rested and ready to take on a new day.
Let's take attendance. Remember to log in to your Google account first.
Here's the link to attendance today. I have loved reading your answers every day. Your chip flavours made me hungry! Such creative ideas!
https://forms.gle/aZpMaHjRDgpHa6Hu5
Before we start our work, you might have heard that today is "Bell Let's Talk Day". This is a day every year when Bell raises money for mental health. If we were at school together today, we might talk about what we do to help our brains stay healthy. We would probably share ideas around what we should do when we feel worried or scared. Some of the the work today will relate to mental health. We all have very full plates these days, and it's never been more important for all of us to take care of ourselves and each other. :)
Now, it's time for Math.
When we we went home at Christmas break, students took home a bag of math materials. There was a deck of cards in there. Today, see if someone in your house has time to play a game with you for a few minutes. One game some of you like to play is "Go Fish". I think everyone knows how to play this game with a deck of cards. If you know of other card games, you could play those, too. Using a deck of cards is a great way to practice your numbers. If you like, you can share in our Google Meet what you did or plan to do in math.
If you still have some time for math after your game(s), you could practice your counting, too. :) Have fun!
Next up, it's our Google Meet! Don't forget your snack if you're hungry. Head to the Google classroom and click on our link. :) It's so wonderful to see your smiling faces during this time. I love to hear your stories. I know we were all especially excited to see Tobias on Tuesday! And thank you for bringing something to share! That was so much fun, too! Today, we are going to do something different... I have a plan! Stay tuned! See you there!
Next up is writing.
Today, let's think about our feelings. Do you know anyone who keeps a diary or a journal? This is a place to write about anything you want, but it's about you. You write about how you are feeling and what's going on in your life. Today, give that a try. Ask yourself, how am I feeling today? Why am I feeling that way? I might write something like this, if I was demonstrating for you in the classroom:
"Today, I am feeling excited about our Google Meet. I can't wait to see everyone. I'm also a little worried about school because I really want to go back to seeing everyone in person. I don't like not knowing when that's going to happen, so it makes me worry. But, I am also really excited to find out when that will be! I'm looking forward to snuggling with my dogs later. That makes me feel so cozy and safe."
After you do a piece of writing like this, you might find you feel calmer and rested, in your mind. :) If you want to, you can share this writing with someone in your family. It's good to share our feelings. :)
After our morning, it's time for recess and lunch. Enjoy your well-deserved break. :)
When you return, you can do the following, in whatever order you like.
Fundations
https://hub.wilsonacademy.com/sharelink/17a8113b-4c83-447f-8230-d37f28ed5137
Gym and/or Music
Reading - You can read using any of the links found on here or you can read your own books.
This is optional! I'm posting a few activities you can print, if you wish. These are from the Bell Let's Talk website. :)
If you're free, join me this evening at 7 p.m. for a bedtime story. <3
Tuesday, January 25, 2022 - The 80th day of school and it's day 2
Good morning lovely ones! I hope everyone got a good sleep. Before I get to our attendance, a couple of things to tell you.
Thanks again to Lawson for reminding us all yesterday in the Google Meet that Aleah and Anita have birthdays this week! Happy birthday girls! The girls are getting set up to work online this week, so hopefully we will see them on here soon. Some of our other students who have had trouble with Internet have been getting set up with week, too, so I'm hopeful we may see them on here later in the week. :)
Teachers got an email yesterday about some Google updates for us. We are being given more "Host Controls" during Google Meet. This will mean a few changes for some of you. If you haven't been logging in to Google before the Google Meet, you'll have to start doing that now, using your cloud account (your address that ends with @cloud.edu.pe.ca). I think most of you are doing that, but I will sometimes get a message from someone requesting access to join the meeting. I can see who you are and I have the ability to let you in. I've been letting you in, because I can see your face and I know who you are. But, we aren't going to be able to do that anymore. Now that we are a few weeks in to this, we are going to start ensuring everyone is logged in properly before allowing you to join the Google Meet. If you try to join the meeting and it doesn't work, you'll have to check to see that you are logged in to Google. If you aren't sure how to do that or you need a refresher, watch the video on our Help page. (Our Class Code as always, is kckp2nz). If you have a sibling you work with, you will have to make sure they are logged out before you can log in and join the Meet. With this, we can also use the same Google Meet link every day. Our Google Meet link will always be: https://meet.google.com/gaz-wyet-rcv
And, when you log in to Google, and go to the Classroom, you will see the option to join our Class Meet there. I will still be able to share our Meets on the Google Meet page here on our site. But, if you want to watch any of them, you'll have to log in to Google to access them.
This will also be true of any videos I share on our Google Site. If you find you are unable to access something, check that you are logged in to Google. You sometimes have to refresh the screen once you log in. I will be making sure everything is only accessible if you are logged in to Google. We have over a 1000 Google Meets happening every day on PEI, if you can believe that, and we want to make sure everyone is using things safely and properly. :)
With all that out of the way, now it's time to enter your attendance. You will need to log in to Google before you do this, too. You will not have access to it otherwise.
Attendance:
https://forms.gle/z5Kyz2k8JzMnoGKc6
After this, we will get into our Math. For grade 1s, you can continue to work on the link I posted yesterday in the Classroom.
https://classroom.google.com/c/NDQ0MTI1ODM3NjU1/a/NDU4MzYyMjYyNDQ0/details
For anyone who hasn't been able to access it, you may need to check your google mail to see if you have an invitation to the Google Classroom in there. You should be able to access it using this link above if you are in grade 1. You can also complete the work below.
If you have access to printing this, you can do that. If you can't, then you can write your answers out on a piece of paper, or do it out loud. :)
Next up is a break for snack and time for our Google Meet. Remember to double-check you are logged in to Google. I am not able to accept any requests to join from outside our cloud emails. I have also found some fun ideas for our Google Meets this week. For today, it will be a Show and Tell. Bring something with you that you'd like to share with us. We will all get a turn to share. :)
After our Meet it will be our Writing time.
Writers, you are doing so well keeping up with your writing during our home learning. I know it's challenging.
Today, let's think about how we write a story. For some of us, this part can be really tricky. Thinking of an idea is not always easy! We can sometimes spend much of our writing time thinking, which is great. But, we don't want to spend all our time doing that. We need to get to the actual writing, too. What are you going to write about today? Pick something and stick with it. Will you write about what you did on the weekend? Will you write about playing outside? Sometime fun you did with your family? Ask a family member to help you with your idea if you're struggling. Have fun! Think, then plan, then write. :)
You can take your recess and lunch break, now. If you go out to play, bundle up! It's chilly out there!
This afternoon, we have a few things to do. You can explore Gym and Music, and decide what you would like to do there.
You can watch the following Fundations lesson:
https://hub.wilsonacademy.com/sharelink/9260aba9-f200-48fa-8531-9b5d9940b0dc
Lastly, spend some time reading. You have the choice of several ways to read. You can head over to our Links page and go to Epic. Or you could check Ms. Taylor's classroom link. You could also curl up with an actual book if you wish. Whatever you choose, be sure to spend 15 minutes or more on reading today. You are welcome to watch one of the recorded read alouds any time you like, too.
As always, boys and girls, I'm so impressed with your hard work, you AND your families. We couldn't do this without everyone's help. Thank you for all you're doing, and have a wonderful day. :)
Love Ms. Stewart <3
Monday, January 24, 2022 - The 79th day of school and it's day 1
Here's your attendance form for today:
https://forms.gle/uT5YVNyzjVo4LNca9
Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. We didn't have any big storms! We had some nice weather! I hope you got outside to play. And, it was so nice to see many of you at our bedtime story Friday evening. We'll do another one in a couple of days. I'll keep you posted. :)
As always, let's start with Math. Grade 2s are off to work with Ms. VanColen. :)
Grade 1s: On Friday, I added something new for you to try in the Google Classroom. Some of you finished it, some of you found it tricky, and some of you did a bit of it. Every one of you gave it a try! Well done! For those of you who didn't finish it, or struggled with it, try it again today. :) See if you have better luck or can get a bit more of it complete. It takes practice. I've added a new one for today. You don't need to do it all today. You can spent a bit of time on it every day this week. Here's the link:
https://classroom.google.com/c/NDQ0MTI1ODM3NjU1/a/NDU4MzYyMjYyNDQ0/details
For anyone who hasn't been able to access it, you may need to check your google mail to see if you have an invitation to the Google Classroom in there. You should be able to access it using this link above if you are in grade 1.
Also today, see if you can complete this sheet. Practice printing your numbers to 30.
After math, it's time for a snack break and our Google Meet at 10 a.m. :) My favourite part of the day!
Next up, let's do a little writing. You've been doing such a wonderful job everyone. I'm so impressed!
Watch this video before you do your writing today.
After writing, we'd be having our recess and lunch break. :)
This afternoon, you can check out the latest in the Gym and Music sections. Take some time for both today. :)
There are two other things for you this afternoon. One is the following Fundations lesson:
https://hub.wilsonacademy.com/sharelink/69e16378-9679-4d3f-aac3-8f03099bbd5f
Lastly, head on over the Read Alouds link and check out the latest story I've added, just for you. :)
I hope you've had a wonderful day. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Love, Ms. Stewart <3
Friday, January 21, 2022 - The 78th day of school and it's day 6
Here's your attendance form for the day:
https://forms.gle/REL4kPA2qm11GtED8
Thank you for filling this out every day. It helps me keep track of you and I get to see your answers to some fun questions. I love reading them. :)
I can't believe it's Friday again! I hope you reward yourselves this weekend, with some time off with your family. I know we have rules that keep us from visiting our friends, but if we stick it out a little bit longer, we will soon get to see them again. Because our Google Meets are going so well, I've been telling all my friends. Instead of having tea parties in person, we are having them online, too. It's the best we can do for now, and it's fun! I look forward to our Google Meets every day, and tonight we're going to have a second one! I put the links up on the Google Meet page. Tonight, I'll share a Robert Munsch book.
So, let's get to work. Time for some Math.
This is something new for us. Take your time. If it doesn't work out for you today, don't worry about it.
Click on this link to head to our Google Classroom:
https://classroom.google.com/c/NDQ0MTI1ODM3NjU1?cjc=kckp2nz
If you are asked for a class code, type this to access our classroom: kckp2nz
Because we haven't used Google Classroom yet, this might require an extra step for some of you. If the first link doesn't work, try the one below.
https://classroom.google.com/c/NDQ0MTI1ODM3NjU1/a/NDQ4ODI3MjAyNzE1/details
If neither work for you, I'll see if I can work out why. You can skip this activity if it doesn't work for you, and practice some counting instead. :)
After math, it's time for our Google Meet. Head over the Google Meet links to find it. :) Bring a snack if you like. :)
After our Google Meet, it's our Friday Free Write time! I won't bother explaining what that is, as I know you all know very well by now. Try to spend at least 15 minutes on your writing today. You can write longer if you like.
After Writing, take a lunch and recess break, or relax for a bit before doing your afternoon activities. :)
This afternoon, you can relax with some reading. Do as much as you'd like. Curl up cozy with some books, or settle in on one of the reading sites. When you finish your reading, have a chat with someone about one of the books you read. If there's no one available to talk with, draw a picture or write about your reading. What did you read? What did you like about it? What didn't you like? Was there a happy ending?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Stewart <3
Thursday, January 20, 2022 - The 77th day of school and it's day 5
Good morning everyone! Here's the link for our attendance today:
https://forms.gle/8eAxAnVjLusbiadS8
I hope everyone had a great day yesterday, especially those who had birthdays yesterday. It was great to be able to see both our birthday students on here and get to wish you a great day!
As always, it was wonderful to see so many of you at our Google Meet yesterday. It was the most we've had yet! And, we got to see Ezekiel's brand new baby brother, Jeremiah! Congratulations to Ezekiel's family on the new baby in the family. It was wonderful to get to see him. :)
Also, I LOVED reading a bedtime story to you and am preparing another one. Ms. Taylor was very sad that she missed it and will join us another time soon.
Let's start our day with math again. Grade 2s are off to see Mrs. VanColen and the grade 1s can stay here. :)
This morning, we have some addition with missing answers. You can print this and complete it, or if you can't, you can draw it on your own paper.
When you finish, you can also practice counting. See if you can count to 100 by 1s. Can you get there yet? Can you count by 2s to 20? Or by 5s and 10s to 100? What about counting backwards from 20?
Also, if you have access to Jack Hartmann, you could look at some of his counting songs, too. He has some new videos on Youtube this week! If you are using a Chromebook, you won't be able to access Youtube, but if you are using a desktop computer from home, you can check out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g6I-AfUJxz8
Now, it's time for a break. Grab and snack and head to our Google Meet for 10 a.m. I can't wait to see you! Take a look on our Google Meet page for the link. :) See you there!
Good morning writers!
I'll say it again because it's just so AWESOME! You're doing a GREAT job with your writing! Yay, you! :) I'm so impressed with all the neat printing, the spacing, the uppercase letters to start your sentences and the periods at the end of your sentences. Keep it up! This is exactly what good writers do! They practice, practice, practice! This is how you get better at everything you do in your life, you keep at it.
When you're writing today, practice stretching out your words. I can imagine us working together at school to stretch out a word together. For example, what if I wanted to spell potato? How would you tackle that word? Check the list to the left for tips on how to do that. :)
What are you going to write about today? Remember to choose something you know. Don't write about something you don't know anything about, or you'll really struggle to find the words. Make it fun!
Break time! Have your lunch and a recess break. When you're all finished, you can decide how you'd like to organize your afternoon so you can include the following things:
Book Buddies/Reading: Are you going to read to a family member today? You can take turns reading to each other. Is your family busy? If they are, you can read to a stuffed animal, a pet, or on your own. Sometimes it's nice to curl up and read independently. I like doing that. :) You can use any of the sites that are linked here, or you can read your own books.
Also, I've got some fun reading activities to add today! You've done an incredible job on the Epic site! You've read over 200 books! WOW! So, they've sent us some activities. Head over to the Links page, check under Epic and see what surprises are there for you today. Choose something you'd like to do, if you're able to print them. If not, you could design your own. :)
Gym and/or Music: Visit our Links page to check out and choose items Mr. Johnson and Ms. Edward have put on there for you.
That's it for today everyone! Have a wonderful day. I miss you!
Love Ms. Stewart <3
Wednesday, January 19, 2022 - The 76th day of school and it's day 4
Here's the link for our attendance today:
https://forms.gle/GTBBmWZDfyjzvZch7
If you fill out the form every day, no matter the time of time, you aren't marked absent for that day.
Happy birthday Lawson and Charlotte! I hope you both have an extra special day. Remind us to sing Happy Birthday to you both during our Google Meet later this morning. :)
Speaking with some of you yesterday after our delay, on Google Meet, was great. I know it wasn't a convenient time for everyone. Thank you families, for being flexible. I know I keep saying it, but I'm just so very proud of all of you. Let's make today another great day! :)
It's time for Math now. :)
This activity can be done using this sheet or creating your own. You could also cut them out if you like and organize them by colour. I will be recording an instructional video for Math for tomorrow or Friday. Stay tuned!
As always, if you have time, practice your counting: by 1s to 100, by 2s to 20, by 5s and 10s to 100, and you can try counting backwards from 20. If it helps, write the numbers out. You could cut them up, scramble them and put them in the right order. Make it fun!
Now, it's time for Writer's Workshop.
I'm so impressed with the writing you're completing at home! Wow! You're working so hard! Thank you for sending it to me, and for bringing it to the Google Meet. If you ever want to share your writing during our Meets, please do! If I forget to ask you if you want to share, raise your hand and ask. When we are chatting I sometimes forget to ask you, I just get so excited to see your faces! Well done on keeping up with writing, everyone. :)
Next up, it's time for your Google Meet! Bring your snacks if you like and get your voices ready to sing Happy Birthday to Lawson and Charlotte! Head on over to the Links page for our Google Meet link.
After our Meet (be sure you've had a bit of a break), you can start your Writer's Workshop. I'll be adding more details in coming days so we have a bit more guidance from me during writing. Stay tuned for that. Today, I'm wondering if you could look back on your home learning writing and pick a piece you'd like to share with us at tomorrow's Google Meet. You might have one you you're excited to share. Perhaps it's finished, or perhaps it's missing something. Remember what I used to say to you at school all the time? "When I'm done, I've just begun!" What are those three things you can do when you finish a piece? "You add more words, you add to the picture, or you start a new piece." Can you keep all of that in your mind today when you're writing, while also thinking of what you'd like to share tomorrow? Continue to think about your spacing, your lowercase letters, and using uppercase at the beginning of sentences, and periods at the end. Brainstorm before you start if you need to. I'm really looking forward to a proper share time tomorrow. :)
Next up, it's time for your recess and lunch. Enjoy your break. You've earned it.
This afternoon, curl up and get cozy for some reading time. Remember the Epic site is free until 3 p.m., and you have links to new sites now. I'm hearing from some of you during our Meets that the reading is going really well! I'm so pleased to hear that! The more we can practice reading the better. :) You choose what type of reading you'd like to use today. Will it be on one of the sites or would you rather have a real book in hand today? Do you want to do both? That's up to you.
To finish our day, you can do some gym and music, in whatever order you like.
This evening, for those who are able, come ready for a bedtime story at 7 pm. I'm going to share a book I bought in Scotland. I think you will like learning about Katie Morag. She lives on an island, just like you!
Tuesday, January 18, 2022 - The 75th day of school and it's day 3
A delay of sorts for online learning today, with power outages in the east. I wasn't able to post in here until just now when the power returned. We are going to have a Google Meet at 1 pm today, just to check in and catch up. Hopefully, everything will return to normal tomorrow. :) For those unable to make it today, no worries at all. :) I'll pop on at 1 p.m. and you are able to join me, great. But, if you're busy, don't worry.
Here's the link to the Google Meet:

Monday, January 17, 2022 - It's the 74th day of school and it's day 2.
It's our 8th day of home learning.
Click here to add your attendance for today. This is how I know you're doing some school work, no matter what time of day it is. :)
https://forms.gle/EUc1QkGfBpaRt2mt6
Welcome back everyone!
I can't believe the snow we got on the weekend! WOW!! I bet some of you will write about it today. Did any of you lose power? I bet some of you did. I did! It was kind of fun! I snuggled in with my dogs and watched shows on my phone. I had to charge my phone in my Jeep. Did any of the grown ups at your house do that, too? Did you get to play in it yesterday? Sunday was cold, but it was sunny. I hope you were all able to enjoy the weekend.
You will see some new things on here today. I've also got a few new things planned for later in the week. I'm excited to share them with you. :)
Happy birthday to Deacon on Saturday! I hope you had a great day, Deacon! We have a few birthdays coming up later in the week, too, right Charlotte and Lawson? :)
If we were at school today, you'd have both Gym and Music today. I bet your families are getting the hang of your schedule. We will start with Math. The grade twos are off to see Ms. VanColen, while the grade ones can stay here.
If you're able to print this sheet, you can do it as it's shown here. If not, you can write the numbers: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100. Then you can cut them out and order them properly. You can glue them on to another sheet, or you can mix them up and do it again. Practice counting to 100 by 10s a few times today. Also, try doing something we did with the Jack Hartmann videos - could you do jumping jacks or some fun dance moves while counting? Movement is great exercise for the brain, not just your body. :)
After math, it's time for our Google Meet! My favourite part of the day! Head on over to the Links page. :) Grab a snack if you're hungry. Today, we could also have a Show and Tell, if you'd like to bring a special toy to share today. :)
After our Meet, it's time for Writing.
Do you ever wonder why we write every day? There are many reasons. Can you think of some? There are some reasons listed in this picture. Everyone writes for a different reason. If you were to ask an author, they might say they want to share a story they wrote. Many of you might say it's because you want to share what you know about a topic. Sometimes, it's nice to write about our feelings, or something exciting that happened to us. See if you can decide on a topic for today and then tell someone why you are choosing to write about that topic. Have fun writing today!
Once you've finished your writing, have a break. Enjoy your lunch, a game, some play time, whatever you need before you get back to work.
We are going to switch things up a little bit for the afternoon. As usual, you can have a gym and music time, but we are adding a new reading link. Decide how you'd like to break up the rest of your afternoon to include music, gym and reading.
For reading today, start by watching this video:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iptW5IXUbMqQD7Y7e0KTATDV6A369e81/view?usp=sharing
After you watch it, you can choose what you want to do next. Thank you so much Ms. Taylor for adding new tools and for offering reading groups. This will be a lot of fun!
Have a wonderful day, everyone. :) I'll see you on here tomorrow.
Big hugs,
Ms. Stewart <3

It's Friday! It's the last day of the work week. We are expecting another Friday storm, so you should have even more snow to play in on the weekend! We also found out yesterday that we are doing another week of home learning. That means another week of Google Meets and work at home. We will make the best of it until we are back together again. As always, THANK YOU for all your hard work. And before we start our day together, how about you thank someone else in your house who is helping you out by doing extra work so you can be schooling at home. It's pretty neat we all get to share our day with some of your family.
I hope you all have a spectacular day!
Let's get our math done. Grade 2s are off to see Ms. VanColen, and grade 1s, I get to keep you. :)
Here are some addition facts for you for today. :)
Practice some counting today, too, if you have time.
Next up, our Google Meet! Head to the Google Meet page! Bring a snack if you're hungry! If any of you have something you'd like to share today, please bring it. Perhaps you have a piece of writing from this week you want to share with us.
After our Meet, it's writing time. Today, we can make it "Friday Free Write". What could you write today? Do you want to make a list of something? Things you want to do this weekend? Perhaps a list of all the things you did this week? Would you like to write a letter to someone? Maybe you'd like to write a letter to someone you miss? Someone from school or family or a friend? Perhaps you'd like to write about a book or a show you really like. You can write anything you like today. It's your choice.
After writing, you can take your recess and lunch break.
Since it's day 1, you'd have Music and Gym today. Do you want to do both? Or would you like to focus on just one? You can choose. You should also do some reading. I'll add more reading choices for Monday. The last thing I'll include for today is a Fundations lesson. If you have time today, since it's Friday, it might be fun to do a little art today. You could draw and colour a picture for someone. That could be a fun way to finish off your week. You've done such a great job this week, everyone! Students and families. You should all be very proud of yourselves. I'll post the Fundations lessons just under this. I'll see you all back here on Monday. Have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy the storm!
Love Ms. Stewart <3

This lesson is a great review of how to tap out words. :)

Good morning everyone. :) It's our sixth day of home learning. Wow. Did you hear we are getting another storm tomorrow? We might have even more snow! Wow!
I hope everyone has a wonderul day today. You're doing great with our home learning routine. We will start with our math, as always.
Today, your math is the opposite of what you did yesterday, when you wrote the number that came next. Today, you'll look at what number comes before.
Also, practice some counting. How is that going? Can you count to 100? Are you still learning to do that? What about the skip counting? Keep up the practice, and you'll notice it gets easier over time. :)
Great job everyone! Time for a break and our Google Meet! Yay!
Click on "Google Meet" at the top of this page and find the link for today. See you at the Meet!
After our Meet and a break, it's writing time.
Before you start your writing today, take a few minutes to think about this sentence: "When you're done, you've just begun!" You've heard me say this many times in class. Make a list in your head, out loud, or on paper of what you can do when you think you're finished writing.
(Did you remember the answer? Did you come up with any we haven't talked about in class? At school, we always say three things: add to your writing, or add to your picture, or start a new piece.
What are you going to write about today? Enjoy it!
Time for a break! Stretch your legs, have some lunch, take a break. :)
For the rest of the day, you have reading, Fundations, and Gym and Music. You can do those in the order you like. It's great to see many of you using the Epic site. If we find out we are doing Home Learning next week, I'll be updating our reading site and adding more choices for you. When you go to read today, read books you have at home, or take some time on the Epic site. It's your choice. You can work in Gym and Music when you like. I'll post a Fundations activity below. I hope you all have a wonderful day. And I look forward to seeing you again tomorrow. Thank you for being your wonderful selves! Don't forget to thank anyone who might have helped you out today. :) I'm thanking you for working so hard. :)
Love Ms. Stewart :)

Good morning friends! It's our fifth day of home learning. The favourite part of my day is seeing your faces at the Google Meet and we've only done it twice. Hopefully, more of you will be able to join sometimes, too. I'm so very proud of how resilient you all are, and how hard everyone is working.
Now that we've taken attendance, it's time for Math. See you later grade two! Let's get started grade one. :)
You can print this sheet or do it orally.
When you finish practice your counting. Start with counting by 1s as high as you can. Go to 100 if you can. Also, try counting by 2s to 20, 5s and 10s to 100. If you would like an extra challenge, try counting backwards from 20.
Great job everyone! Time for a break and Google Meet! Yay!
Click on "Google Meet" at the top of this page and find the link for today. I'm going to keep adding our Meet links and our past recordings to this page. See you at the Meet!
After our Meet and a break, it's writing time.
Before you do your writing today, do some thinking.
What does writing look like? Is it messy or neat? Do you do your best or not?
What does it sound like? Is it loud? Is it quiet?
What does it feel like? Does it make you feel good? If it doesn't, what could you do to make it better?
If there is someone to share these ideas with, maybe they will have some, too.
After you've done this, start a new piece of writing, or work on one from earlier in the week.
You can take a lunch break and a recess break now, if you are working on a school day schedule.
You will need a helper for this lesson. If you don't have someone to read this to you today, you could skip this, do it later, or try another day. No matter what, you're doing great!
You can take another break if you want. You could explore your Music and Gym links now, too.
Then we will finish our day with Book Buddies, like we always did on day 5. This will be very different today. We don't have our grade 5 book buddies today, except for Brooklyn, since her buddy is her brother. :) Those of you who have brothers or sisters at home, they might like to be your buddy today. But, they are too busy with school work, check with a parent, or a grandparent, or anyone else who might be in your house. If there aren't any humans to buddy up with, you could read with a pet or a toy today. Sometimes it's nice to read alone, too. :) During this time, you could also choose to read on the Epic site. And lastly, I would LOVE to read to you, so I've uploaded another read aloud to that section of our page. I will be your virtual buddy for a little bit. :)
Finish your tell by saying thank you to anyone who might have helped you out today. THANK YOU!! Give yourself a pat on the back, too. And if you want to, take a few minutes to relax or do some stretching to end the day. I really hope you have had a fantastic day. I miss you, as always!
See you tomorrow,
love Ms. Stewart <3
Tuesday, January 11, 2022 - It's the 70th day of school! It's day 4.
Click here to add your attendance for today:
https://forms.gle/D462SC1VZMBZxvQZ7
Good morning everyone! It's Tuesday, January 11, 2022, and it's day 4. It's also our fourth day of home learning. You are doing a GREAT job! Pat yourselves on the back for trying your best to do your school work from home. I know it's not easy for anyone. Give yourself a shout out and thank everyone who is helping you out. It's a big change for everyone in your house. I'm really proud of you all! :)
Reminder: If you need help learning how to get on Google, check out the Help page. :) I'm learning more every day, like you, so I'm adding more as we do more.
After attendance, we move to Math time. As always, see you in a bit grade 2, and grade 1s stay with me. :)
For grade 1 math today, we will continue where we left off yesterday.
For those able to print, you can right-click on the image on the left, save it, and print it. You'll see the instructions clearly when it's larger. For those of you can't print it, draw your own and fill in the blank numbers. Any time you want to take a picture and email me your work, you can. I know not everyone can do that. That's fine. :) My address, as always, is: tlstewart@edu.pe.ca
Next up, it's time for a snack break if you're hungry. I might need a cup of tea! :) And, we will have our second Google Meet. The link is under the Google Meet Link I've add. :) Yesterday, it was SO EXCITING to see you! We couldn't stop talking! Today, let's try to take turns and use our manners when someone else is talking. Some of us want to share more than others. Some of us will just want to listen. But, we do want to make sure those who want to share, get a chance. :) Let's all try to make that work today. I'm really looking forward to seeing you again. :)
Next up it's time for Writer's Workshop. Today, I'd like you to be thinking about your "tap it out" tool. When you come to a word you can't spell, we sometimes feel stuck. But, we don't want this to keep us from sharing our great ideas! So, we do our best to "tap out" a tricky word. Do we worry if the word isn't spelled right? No way! We can fix that later when we edit our work, if we like. But, when you're writing, remember to keep going. Don't stop for too long, or you might forget your idea. What could you write about today? Remember to think of something that happened to you. You might want to write about today's Google Meet. Or, you might want to write about something else you did today. Would you like to share some of your writing tomorrow at our Google Meet? We would all love to see each other's writing, just like we do at school. :) Remember to use your very best printing, put spaces between your words, and put periods at the end of your sentences. After this, you can take a lunch and recess break.
After your break:.
On day 4, we would have Fundations after lunch. You can follow along with this lesson today:
https://hub.wilsonacademy.com/sharelink/92908f30-cc6d-408e-bf64-5ab621ae3948
Now, it's usually time for Music. Have a look at Ms. Edward's page.
Then you'd have a short recess break.
After this break, Mr. Munro would come in and do some printing or independent reading with you on day 4, while I go to my Grade Level Meeting. This will be your reading time. You can spend some time on the Epic site, or read your own books for about 15 minutes.
Lastly, you can finish your day with some Gym! Have a look at the link to Mr. Johnson's page. If you like, you can practice some mindfulness, too.
You can always change the order of any of these subjects. Or, if you're busy with other family activities, you can do these at any point through the day. The only thing you can't do after 3 pm is use the Epic site for free.
Happy Tuesday all!
Miss you, as always!
Love, Ms. Stewart <3
Monday, January 10, 2022 - It's the 69th day of school and it's day 3
Good morning everyone!
I'm adding a few more things today. We can't count the days at school, but we can still count the days of learning. It's the 69th day of school (the third of home learning) and it's day 3. Do you remember what you'd have on day 3 at school? I bet you do, because it's our Library day. You would have Gym today, but no Music. Ms. Edward has some new activities on her site, though, so you're more than welcome to visit it any day you like.
I was at the school on Sunday and took some videos for you. Here are a couple I took of the snow! WOW!!
Sunday, January 9, 2022
Belfast Consolidated School
I couldn't believe all that snow!
Before I go on, click here to add your attendance for today, no matter what time of day it is when you come on here:
https://forms.gle/9cLfeG7v79UjbPJ7A
I also created a HELP page on here. I uploaded a couple of videos. The first one is showing you how to log into Google, so you'll be able to access the Google Classroom when I upload material there. I also made one to show you how to join our Google Meet at 10 am this morning! I'm so excited for that! Unfortunately, we have a few passwords that aren't working. I'll be in touch with you and we are trying to get them fixed ASAP.
After attendance, it's typically Math time. See you in a bit Grade 2! Grade 1, don't go anywhere!
Next up is our Google Meet! I've been looking forward to this for days, and I'm hopeful we can do this most days during the week. We will give it a try! I will be there from 10 am until 10:30. Then, Ms. MacLennan is doing a Google Meet with her class, so some of you will have siblings there. Bring your snacks if you wish. :) For those who can't access it today, it will be recorded, so you can watch it later. Then, hopefully, you can join us for the next one. When we are learning how to do new things, it doesn't always work for us the first time. We will have to be patient and keep trying. :)
Here is the Google Meet link for today:
Next up it's time for Writer's Workshop. I have a perfect topic for today: our Google Meet! Maybe you were a part of the Google Meet and you'd like to write about how it felt to see some of your classmates. If you were unable to be here for the Meet, but you'd still like to write about it, wait and watch the recording before you do your writing. Or, you could choose another topic to write about today. Do you have any other ideas? I have another great one! We had a HUGE storm on the weekend! Some of you wrote on Friday that we were expecting that storm. We sure did get a lot of snow! Did you get a chance to play outside in it? Did you lose power in your house? How did you feel during the storm? If you're not interested in these topics, brainstorm something else you could write about today. Remember to use your very best printing, put spaces between your words, and put periods at the end of your sentences. After this, you can take a lunch and recess break.
After your break, we have a three or four things to finish or day.
This is often when we would be doing some reading. First of all, if you look under the "Read Alouds" link, I've uploaded a read aloud for you. :) After you watch that, you can spend some time on the Epic site, or read your books for about 15 minutes. When you finish this, we are going to do a Fundations lesson. Here's the link to that:
https://hub.wilsonacademy.com/sharelink/700bed4a-b528-45ae-b2ee-31b077ca0281
Lastly, you can finish your day with some Gym! Have a look at the link to Mr. Johnson's page. If you like, you can practice some mindfulness, too.
Happy Monday everyone!
See you tomorrow!
Miss you!
Love, Ms. Stewart <3
January 7, 2022
Welcome back! It's day 2 of our home learning. The first day was a busy one. I hope you found the site easy to navigate. You'll see some new items today, and I'll add more before Monday.
Both Mr. Johnson and Ms. Edward have added links for Gym and Music. I have put them under the links tab. Try to do 30 minutes each school day, of Music and/or Gym. You don't need to do 30 minutes of both. You can do 15 minutes of each, or 20 of one and 10 of the other. Try to make it equal 30 minutes. I added Ms. VanColen's grade 2 math link yesterday. If you missed it, you'll see it on the links page, too.
I was hoping to have a video for you today, however, my Internet was not cooperating. I have a plan for next week though, as my mom and dad have super fast Internet at their house and they only live five minutes away. I will go there on Monday. I'll talk more about Monday later. :)
Today, I'm going to start taking attendance! If we were at school, I'll be asking you all to stand up and I'd be checking to see if you've passed in your folders. You would sit down when I called your name off your folder. I miss that! I've made a Google form you can try using today. Here's the link:
https://forms.gle/oxuGP9KmpkfGvSvL6
If you click that, it should let you open a new page with this form. It's going to ask you to put your name in and answer two questions. Give it a try! I've set it up so even if you're not logged in to Google, it should work for you. This way, I can still take attendance every day until I can do it in person again.
After we get our day started, and we've heard Mr. Munro do the announcements, the grade 2s would head off to their math class. See you later grade 2! You can head over to the Links page and check in with Ms. VanColen.
Grade ones, you can stay here with me. We have always loved our math videos in grade one. We have a problem with that during home learning though. When you are logged into your Chrome book, you can't access YouTube sadly. If you are working on a different device, or someone in your house has access to YouTube, maybe they could help you. For those of you who can access YouTube, head on over to visit our friend, Jack Hartman! Here's the link:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVcQH8A634mauPrGbWs7QlQ
For those of you who are able to get on here, choose some counting videos. Share the ones you know well with your family. Maybe they'd like to join in with you! Spend about 15 minutes doing math with Jack. Next week, we will have some other ways of doing math together. :)
For those of you who can't access YouTube (you can you can still do this if you like), you can do an activity called "Counting Around the House". Make a list of these items:
Lamps
Chairs
Pillows
Televisions
Doors
Windows
Tables
Beds
Once you make your list, count these items. Which one had the most? Were you surprised by how many there were of some items? Share with a family member what you found out.
After math, we always have snack time. On Monday, we are going to have a Google Meet at snack time! I'm so excited! We will hopefully be able to do them every day at 10:00-10:30. You can join in any time during that half hour time. Don't worry if you are late. Don't worry if you can't stay the whole time. Also, it's ok if you are logged in as one of your sisters or brothers at home. You might be sharing a device. As long as you have the link, you can join the meet. I'll be sharing a link for you by Monday morning. Because this is a new activity for us, we might find we have some challenges. If it doesn't work for you on Monday, don't worry. We will figure it out together and we will hopefully get it working for the next day.
After snack, it's time for Writer's Workshop. Did you get a chance to do some writing yesterday? Some of you may have the ability to take a picture of your writing and email it to me. Feel free! I love seeing it. But, I also know that might not be something you can do. No big deal. :) Yesterday, I gave you some options. I also mentioned brainstorming some writing ideas. Did you want to try another one from yesterday? How about trying a new small moment? Remind yourself - what does it mean to write a small moment? I need to zoom in on one part of an idea. I don't write about my whole day, but maybe one part of it. Write something that happened to you. What did you do so far today? Yesterday? Just like when we are at school, we sometimes have to spend a few minutes thinking of an idea. Do that. You could also make a list of ideas for other days, too, if you like. Once you have an idea, remember the words are the most important part. I love seeing your pictures, but I love your words more! Practice what you've learned in Fundations. Tap our your words when you're trying to spell something new. This is what good writers do! Have fun writing. Spend about 15 minutes on this and then take a well earned break.
After our lunch and recess we would be spending some time on reading. I'm excited about this today! Some of you might have friends or brothers and sisters who use the Epic program. It's a great place to do some reading. It's all set up for you to start using today. I'll be able to see if you've been in there, too. How cool is that?
Here are the steps to start using Epic:
Go to www.getepic.com/students
Enter our class code: par2328
Find your name and take it from there! You'll see there are some books that have been chosen just for you. :) You can use Epic anytime you like for your reading time. BUT - Epic is only free during the school day. If you log in after school hours, it will ask you to pay to use it. So, remember you only have it until 3 pm. During other times of the day, you can read your own books.
This might be a nice time to do some Music and/or Gym, after your reading.
This has been a busy day! I'm really looking forward to seeing as many of you as I can on Monday. We will have fun trying to get our first ever Google Meet to work.
One last thing before I go today. Again, if you have access to YouTube, you could try some mindfulness on our favourite site. The Zen Den. You could choose a mindfulness or a yoga activity to finish your day. I have always loved seeing how much you enjoy this. It's so good for us to relax our brains and our bodies. If you can get this to work, ask any family members if they might like to try it with you, if they have time.
https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga
If you can't access this site, can you remember what we did for mindfulness? You could take five minutes to lie down or sit criss cross applesauce, and practice your slow yoga deep breathing. Find a quiet place to do that. Add in some stretching if you like.
One more thing - could you practice logging in to Google with your username and password? It must be exactly as I gave it to you. No extra spaces. The uppercase letters must be uppercase, the lowercase must be lowercase. We may need these early next week. If you've tried several times and it still doesn't work, ask someone else to give it try, also try refreshing the page and starting over, then if it still doesn't work, email me the username and password as you've been entering it and I'll test it on my end. Thank you. :)
Boys and girls, I hope you have a WONDERFUL weekend! I miss you SO MUCH and I can't wait to see you in person again. We are getting a snow storm today, too! Stay cozy and warm inside. I'm going to snuggle my dogs later and go through some of my books so I can record some read alouds for you at my parents' house.
Missing you all,
Love Ms. Stewart :)
January 6, 2022
Good morning class!
This is your first official day of home learning. I wish more than anything we were all together in the classroom! I'm going to be SO EXCITED when we can get together again! Fingers are crossed that it's really soon! Until then, we will do our best to work together online. It will be an adventure!
For today, we will keep things simple as we ease our way back into work. I learned that trying to do too much at once is frustrating and too hard. Have you ever felt that way?
We will try to do a little reading, a little writing, and a little math. If you want, you could do it at the same time you'd be doing it at school. That's up to you. If you and your family would like to make a schedule together, to help keep it organized, that might help things run smoother at home. I'm going to do that. I'm going to be thinking about math from 9 to 10, then I'll have a snack break. You do not need to do an hour of math. Your math might take you 15 minutes, or a bit longer. If you want to do more, you can. If you have any questions about math during that time, I'll be available to answer questions. For those of you in grade 2, Ms. Van Colen has sent this link for you:
sites.google.com/cloud.edu.pe.ca/grade-2-math-remote-learning-2/home
By next week, we should have things even more organized for you. For today, my grade one math students could do some practice counting. See how high you can count. Can you get to 50? To 100? Can you try going backwards from 20? Can you skip count by 2s to 20? Or by 10s to 100? Or by 5s to 100? Some of this might seem really tricky, but this is a great time to practice. You could also write these numbers out. If the counting is too hard, practice printing your numbers to 10. Then try going to 20. Then keep going! See how high you can go if you spend about 15-20 minutes on this.
After snack break, I'll do some writing. You might want to do your writing then, too. At school, we do it for about 45 minutes. But, at home, you should think about 15 minutes of writing for now. If you'd like to do more, you can. We will start off without a mini-lesson. You can do a free write. You can explain to your family what a free write is. You may need to brainstorm some ideas first. Here a few I'm thinking of writing about:
what do I think about home learning? What will I miss about school? What will I like about working at home?
a memory from the Christmas holidays. Did something exciting happen? Any surprises? Anything weird happen? Did you have to isolate? How was that?
What am I looking forward to most when we go back to school?
Write me a letter. Tell me how you are. Or write a letter to a friend or family member.
Write about working at home with two big dogs who want you to pet them all the time. ;)
You can use any kind of paper you might have at home. You could add a picture, too. But, remember the words are the most important parts. We will talk more about our strategies next week, as well as our Fundations.
After writing, I know I'll need a break. I might go for a walk outside if it's nice. Or, I might go check on the chickens or peacocks. Maybe I'll play with my dogs. But, I will definitely take some breaks. If it's raining or snowing and too yucky to go outside, I might work on some of my Lego. I'm a big Lego fan and I'm working on a Harry Potter set. Building with blocks is a great way to exercise the brain, but it's a way to relax it, if that works for you.
In the afternoon, I'm going to focus on reading. When we are at school, we often have a quiet reading time and a buddy reading time. You can do both, if you like. I'll be reading to some of my pets. I'm going to get some read alouds ready to record for you, too! I'm excited to share some of my favourite stories with you in the days ahead. If you don't have enough books at home, let me know and I'll be sure we drop some off for you. Ms. Taylor is helping me today and we are setting up some online reading sites for you. By Monday, I think you'll have loads to keep you busy. :)
Today, don't worry at all about Google Classroom or logging in. We will get that sorted by Monday. Next week, we will try setting up a Google Meet, too, where we can all see each other on the screen! That will be neat!
So, to review, today you should spend some time on math, reading and writing, and also some physical activity. There's a link on the main page to some ideas the Department of Education had for us. If you scroll down the list, you'll find the physical activities. They have reading, writing and math ideas on there, too. If you want to do some extra work, there are loads of ideas there.
I will post more before Friday morning. Feel free to email me at any time. We've got this!
Missing you,
Ms. Stewart :)
