Hello All!
I am very excited to have a wonderfully talented student teacher in my classroom until December 12th. Ms. Levi is here from UPEI, where she is completing her Bachelor of Education Degree. Ms. Levi has a background in language arts and social studies, and she will be taking over some lessons over the next few weeks.
Language Arts:
We are currently working on a Mystery and Horror Short Story Unit. Students were introduced to some features of strong leads (how to begin a story with a hook), and have been working away at creating their stories. The due date for the completed story is Tuesday, October 29th.
Social Studies:
Over the past two weeks, we have been working on a Unit about Sir John A. MacDonald. This included some positive, as well as negative, contributions he made to the creation of Canada. There will be a total of four assignments with this Unit, and we will be finishing up in-class learning on Friday (October 25th).
My wonderful student teacher (Ms. Levi) will be taking over the social studies teachings over the next few weeks. The students will be focussing on Citizenship in the Global Community.

Hello All!
Sorry for the delay in writing this. Time seems to get away from me.
Language Arts:
We are currently working on a Reading Response #1, which allows students to show an understanding of what they read during our daily silent reading time. The assignment is posted in the Google Classroom, and is due tomorrow (Friday, September 27th).
We will also be focusing on grammar review, as grammar is key in the creation of proper sentences and paragraphs.
Our next Unit of Study will be short story writing. I will be doing mini-lessons on proper plot development, adding details in our writing, as well as proper editing skills.
Social Studies:
This week we took a pause on our work with mapping skills to focus on Truth and Reconciliation. Students were introduced to videos and discussions that focused on how Indigenous Peoples on PEI, specifically Lennox Island, suffered in the past. We also touched base on Residential Schools by learning about Chanie Wenjacks story (The Secret Path). There are a few reflection assignments tied into these topics. All assignments will be due by Wednesday, October 2nd.
REMINDERS:
No School on Monday, September 30th: National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.
Terry Fox Run Friday, October 4th. Donations greatly appreciated.
Recipes in a Jar Fundraiser began today, and will go until Thursday, October 3rd. Every jar sold means money in the bank for grade 9 students to help pay for their trip.

Hello, and welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! I will be using this BLOG as a way to keep you informed about what we are working on, as well as any upcoming important events. I plan on updating it bi-weekly, and will include sections for LA (9I, 9J, 9E), SS (9I, 9E), as well as Homeroom notes (9I only).
I teach the following classes/subjects:
9I Homeroom, Language Arts and Social Studies (Until February)
9E Language Arts and Social Studies (February)
9J Language Arts
The first week, I will mostly spend the time getting to know the students, as well as making sure they feel safe, comfortable, and are learning classroom & school routines. There will be a few assignments that I will introduce, which will help me get to know the students better, and through my examples, will hopefully let them get to know me as well.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email or call me anytime!
