I have been so horrible at updating our site! Most reliable info is in our weekend emails! I will do my best to add them here from now on :)
A small update so we can keep everyone up to date with what is going on at Glen Stewart!
Thank you to all those who sent in donations for crazy hat/hair day today! We will be doing a pj day for the whole school next Friday and donations again will go to our Easter Seals Fundraiser!
Some reminders of dates:
April 24 - PJ Day fundraiser for Easter Seals

April 27 - Home and School Meeting 6pm
April 28- Spring Photos for all English classes
April 29- Spring Photos for all French classes
Sun safe presentation
April 29 - Easter Seals Ambassador Visit
May 1 - Area Association / CUPE 3260 Annual Convention (no classes)
Outdoor Recess has and will continue to be a big part of our day, but making sure the kiddos are dressed appropriately is for sure going to remain important! In our classroom, I use the rule that if your grownups send you in it, it has to be worn outside. Not with the season changing, the weather never seems to stay the same all day! Since this will likely be the case the next couple of weeks, I have been encouraging the kiddos to wear what it is they were sent to school in, but they are able to take it off outside if they get too warm! We have a specific place to line up on the pavement and as long as it is not wet, they can set their jackets there until it is time to come inside! For the busses I know some have a long bus ride and that they get VERY warm this time of year, I just am reminding them they can take off any layers after we have done our loop and they are on the bus to keep it the same for everyone! Let me know if there are any questions or suggestions on that!
Next week in writing we are going to continue our persuasive writing unit to write notes to Mrs. Dunn and Mrs. MacKinnon about why our grade 2's should go to the Wizard of Oz Musical! They have been working really hard on sharing their opinions lately and I think this will be something really fun for them to share!
They have been doing great work in math and fundations as we continue to pick away at all the grade 2 outcomes!
Our grade 2 team has been chatting lots lately about all the great opportunities coming up in May and June, lots of fun things going to be happening for sure!
As always if there is any questions feel free to reach out!
Hello Everyone!
Hard to believe I am saying it, but November is done! WOW!
We have had lots of fun this month, but have a lot more fun coming up!
A couple of things!
On Monday we have a new student starting in our class! He came for a quick visit today and had lots of fun meeting everyone! That brings our total to 19 students in 2I. We are so excited for him to join us!
I sent home Report Cards on Wednesday. Inside was their report card and tickets to our December Holiday Concert. If you need more tickets, please contact the office.
Please return the envelope if you are able to. This way we can reuse and know every parent has seen the report card!
Homework is sent home on Mondays; to keep up the routine I will send it up until we break for Christmas, but I know these times are busy! Let me know if there is any way I can support if needed!
As a class, we have earned enough points to have some free time where each student will get to bring one toy of choice that fits in their kitbag. We are going to have a class discussion on Monday and decide what day works best!
We have begun unit 5 in Fundations and will be looking at more compound words; the kids have really liked doing these activities the last few days!
We have lots of fun things happening in our class over the next few weeks and I am so excited!
Important Dates:
Wednesday, December 10th - Christmas Concerts for Grade 2 at 1pm and 4:30pm
Monday, December 15th - Red & Green day and Get up and Dance
Tuesday, December 16th - Read aloud with Admin and Name that tune
Wednesday, December 17th - Festive attire day and Teacher swap
Thursday, December 18th - School wide BINGO (virtual) and Choir to Andrews
Friday, December 19th - PJ day and school carol sing. Last day of school before holidays!
Monday, January 5th - First day back.
Hi Everybody!
Not my typical Friday email, but being gone 6 days I felt it was good to have some reminders (for myself too haha)!
Parent-Teacher Interviews are coming up (Thursday November 20th evening and Friday Nov 21st all day) ! Feel free to use our booking website (https://gsp.parentteacherconferences.net/) to book an appointment!
I am not going to send new homework books this week. I know getting back into a routine is tough and adding new homework on top of that can be a lot. So, if you could read one or two books from past weeks with your child or have them read it to you, that would be more than enough! We will be back to our regular stuff starting Monday!
Wednesday November 19th is jersey day at our school!
I was so happy to see lots of smiling faces this morning! Reach out if you have any questions,
Have a great rest of your week!
Happy Halloween Everyone!
It was so awesome to see all the kiddos dressed up today! We did lots of fun stuff this week but today was defiantly the BEST! Thank you to the friends that took in some treats for the class, totally not necessary but so so thankful! We handed them out at the end of our day during our little class party!
Crazy to think that we are already into November! I sent out some dates last week but I will send them here again just as a reminder!
November 5th - Remembrance Day Assembly, choir students will be performing.
November 6th and 7th - PEITF - (No School)
November 10th - Report Card Day (No School)
November 11th - Remembrance Day (No School)
Parent teacher interviews will be November 20th and November 21st this year and so there will be no school on the 21st as well.
Just a last few notes -
Drop off, please make sure you are trying your best to drop off before 8:30, we have a specialist on 3 of the 6 days right at 8:30 and it is always nice for everyone to be able to get there. When we do not have specialist, we do complete fundations in the morning block so this is a very important time for them to be there! Obviously, appointments and life happens I totally get that, just something to keep in mind!
We have finished Unit 3 in Fundations! Moving onto unit four I really want to stress the idea of fluency in reading! This is part of the reason I typically only send one book home, as at this age an important part of learning is repetition! I am going to continue with the paper books for the time being, and those can all stay at home, but if you are wanting something a little different just reach out! Or I know a lot of friends are enjoying "Dogman" if they choose to take that home and read that is totally okay too!
I hope you all have a great weekend and a safe night trick-or-treating,
As always reach out if you have any questions!
We had a busy week here in grade 2, and are gearing up for an eventful week coming up! There have been lots of photos updated to our class if you want to have a look at some of our recent creations! https://sites.google.com/cloud.edu.pe.ca/ms-harpers-grade-2-class/class-photos
On Friday October 31st (Halloween), we are inviting all the students at Glen Stewart to dress up! We will be participating in a parade around the Kindergarden wing and would love to see some awesome costumes!
Just a reminder from the office:
Dress up: We do allow students to wear costumes on the day of Halloween. We do ask that costumes are age appropriate, no masks or weapons. We also stress that teachers are not responsible for costume set up (make up etc). Homeroom teachers can decide if there is a specific window you want to allow the dress up to happen.
Thank you so much for your cooperation on this!
A few dates to keep in mind!
November 5th - Remembrance Day Assembly, choir students will be performing.
November 6th and 7th - PEITF - (No School)
November 10th - Report Card Day (No School)
November 11th - Remeberance Day (No School)
Also hard to believe but we do have Parent Teach interviews coming up November 20th and 21st! I will send lots more about this at a later date.
September 26th
Hello Everyone!
I feel like the weeks are just flying by! A quick update on what we have completed this week and what is to come!
This week we finished up our Fundations Unit One. This morning we completed our "Show what you know" I prefer to use this language when it comes to "testing" at this age as that is the main idea - showing your teacher what you know! I am feeling extremely thankful for this group and can tell we have a great year to come!
Next week
Monday September 29th is Orange Shirt Day at Glen Stewart
Tuesday September 30th there is no school
Wednesday October 1st is our Grade Two field trip to Cotton Park! Please make sure to pack a snack that will be easy to eat and the appropriate clothing for the walk!! Our Raindate will be Thursday October 2nd.
Last few remarks
We have started taking out the Chromebooks. We will mainly use this for EPIC reading once every six day cycle. IF you child would like headphones to be able to listen to books we ask that they are provided from home. I am happy to store them here until the end of the year.
Book Fair is starting back up! From October 6th-9th. I will send home a flyer next week! This year will look a bit different to last and that will mean we do not get to browse before we buy. On Monday October 6th our class will have Library and have an opportunity to buy their books then! We are fortunate to have an extra library time so if you happen to forget on the Monday we can figure that out!
Picture Day is also coming up. For english classes it will be on Tuesday October 7th.
Lastly, there have been some lunches going to the wrong place when ordered through schoolluches. We have noticed they are going to 2A which is Lauren Dorsey's class, not a huge deal at all but just double check that your childs lunch is selected to go to 2I Lauren Harper if you get the chance!
September 19th
Happy Friday everyone!
Just a few quick updates for you all!
This week we were lucky enough to have two UPEI nursing students in our class teaching about proper handwashing! They will be returning next Wednesday and Thursday to observe our class again!
On Thursday September 25th we will be doing our schools Terry Fox walk!
We finished up our first full week of fundations which was review grade 1 concepts! We will start into our second week on Monday with brings a bit more from the end of grade 1!
Same deal for homework next week (none over the weekend) I will send one book you can keep at home! They are free to read, color, find trick words, etc! If you want to send any notes to me I can also provide a little sheet to do so!
Such a great week and I was so happy to meet most of you at meet the teacher!
Enjoy the weekend, and as always if there any questions please reach out!
September 11th
We will be starting homework on Monday. It is nothing to stress over! Just a book or two being sent home to practice throughout the week. I will talk more about this at meet the teacher!
Leading me to my next point! We will have a meet the teacher night on Wednesday September 17th. The specific time for grade 2 is going to be 6:40-6:55. I would love to see all of you there! Our classroom is #302 and it is a little hidden. If you come in the main doors you go up the stairs in the right and at the top take a sharp left turn we are just down a half set of stairs.
Our school will do our terry fox walk on Wednesday September 25th
I am going to link our google site here as well. This will be used as a resource for us but our main form on communication will be through email. https://sites.google.com/cloud.edu.pe.ca/ms-harpers-grade-2-class/home
