Net Zero Community Project:
What you need:
-shoe box or similar size box for model (can be larger if able to be dropped off at school)
-write up (attached to one side of the box)
-practice presenting at home
You will create your own Net Zero Community model. You will need to include sustainable energy sources (solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal), think about transportation (public, active, etc.), food (local, healthy, production), building materials, green space, carbon capture, what makes it a place people want to live (services), and a focus on healthy living.
Students will create a model of a Net Zero Community and present to their classmates. Our focus on Integrated Studies this term has been on sustainable energy sources and how human activity and the environment can affect each other.
Students can use many different types of materials to make their models. Examples include paint, pictures, modelling clay, lego, cardboard, plastic bottles, styrofoam, rocks, construction paper, tracks, roads, etc. As well, students can choose to have "working" parts of their community (lights, trains, wind turbines, etc.).
Visit Google Classroom for some examples for inspiration. As well, you can check out the class version of this project, from last year, on our class website's homepage https://sites.google.com/cloud.edu.pe.ca/mrsspidel/home?authuser=0 .
Due Date: Wednesday, November 20, 2024.
Students have a number of short school weeks during this time, so those days would be a great time to get a lot of work completed. They can be creative and innovative with such an important current topic.
