Some day in Feb will be our 100th day of school! Date TBD, depending on snow days!
For our 100th day of school we have some festivities planned! There is a VRCS tradition of grades K - 2 dressing up like their 100 year old selves! This is so funny and cute, and the kids love it! Like always, dressing up is always a choice, but strongly encouraged, as the kids really and truly have a blast and this is one of the best dress up days of the year!
In addition to the dressing up, we also have lots of fun activities planned for the day , including lots of 100 themed activities, and even a special treat!
In preparation for the 100th day of school I always ask my students to do a project. I'd like for them to find a collection of 100 things. It can be anything they can easily take to school. There are lots of great ideas on google, and some ideas I've seen done in the past are; a collection of 100 legos, 100 pennies, 100 stickers, 100 pom poms, 100 marbles, 100 hearts on a shirt, and a picture of 100 books from home! We've been counting to 100 by tens every day so the girls should have a pretty good idea of how to count, so I encourage you to let them help count the collection in groups of ten. Practicing those counting skills is important! They should know that 100 is the same as 10 groups of ten!
More info on Valentine's day celebrations to come soon! But we will be exchanging Valentines and having a bit of a Valentine's day party on the 12th! Here is a list of the students who will be taking part in our Valentines day exchange.

Please send cutlery with your children for their hot lunches.
Please make sure your child has a water bottle in class every day.
Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather of the day. It is getting COLD out there! And that wind has a big bite!
Please make sure to send homework bags back to school.
Our school's Occupational therapist wanted me to share these videos with all of you.
From our School OT:
Kindergarten students are starting to use pencils, crayons and markers every day in school. Holding these tools with a functional pencil grasp will make the activities of colouring within the lines and printing letters and numbers much easier. Please watch this video and work on the activities at home to help develop their pencil grasp.
