Each night students are expected to:
1) review their spelling words. A sheet will be sent home each week with a list of 10 words that relate to the spelling principle we are working on for the week. Students will have a Word Work Check in on Friday (or the last day of the week).
2) do math practice. Math practice will be given each month. Students need to have their basic math facts on a 3 second recall by the end of Grade 3. Students also need to be able to skip count forwards and backwards up to 1000 by 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 10s, 25s, and 100s. This practice is meant to be quick and something you can do quickly anywhere. Whether, you are on your way to a sports practice, making supper together, or getting ready for bedtime you can do some quick practice. Every little bit will help!
3) read. Students are only required to read 10-15 minutes a night (feel free to set a timer). As their reading level increases they will be bringing home longer books. They are not expected to complete these long/chapter books in one evening. They can take the book for a few nights. As the year progresses and students' reading level increases, students will be given the opportunity to choose books from home to read, read their library books, or sign out books from the classroom library. Please check and initial your child's homework log each evening.
Homework should only take about 20 minutes each night.
