Literacy

I will read " Measuring Penny" by Loreen Leedy

During this book we will talk about how to measure different things. The girl Lisa in this book decides to meaure her dog "Penny"! Hopefully after listening to this story you might try measuring things in your house.

Writing

I hope everyone is working on their procedural writing project! Did you decide on a steps style or window style? I can't wait to see them all. Please put it in your Fundations Journal and date your work!

Fundations

Practicing words with /k/ sound. We will decide if the word belongs in the c column, k column. We all know /K/ at the end of word after short vowel is always ck. I will show you a sample of " What makes the /k/ sound chart"? (Unit 1 Week 2 videos Part 1&2 are helpful videos for learning this new concept).

We will follw up with a discussion on places we've been. Also about places we would like to visit on P.E.I, Canada, U.S, or the world!

Writing-

An introduction example of procedural writing. " Planting an Amaryllis".

This will help the student with the format they will use to complete their own idea for a procedural writing project. Complete in format like mine or in a window style. See examples below! 1 . First 2. Next 3. Then 4. Finally should be included in the steps area boxes. I'd love to see pictures in your procedural writing! In order to do a good job with procedural writing project it may take a couple of days to complete!

Fundations - Helpful videos to watch to better understand /k/ sound in words: INC U1 Week2 Part1 and Part2

Introducing the /K/ sound

ck- /k/ is only found immediately after a short vowel at the end of a word- eg. sock

k- /k/ sound is not immediately followed by a vowel at end of a word if eg. milk

c- /k/ sound is almost always found at the beginning of words eg.cat

When writing words that begin with letter K it should mostly be used before e- key, i -kite

When writing words that begin with letter c it should be only used before a- cat, o- cold, or u -cut

Math- Measure out Amaryllis class plant! Show Growth on Bar Graph!

  • Snowman addition sheet ( found in math materials sheets)

  • Play the game called The Place Value Path (found in games folder in school materials)

Remote Learning video Friday January 10,2022

Music with Tara Good morning everybody!

Hope the first full day of online learning goes well! For music class, I have made a classroom website that works for all grades. Students simply click on the different elements of the class to open the content.

For each music class, the students must click on the projector and choose 1 movement activity, then click on their grade number on the right hand side to open up their google classrooms/class tasks.

There are additional resources there for students who would like a bit more, such as instruction booklets for the guitar, piano, ukulele, and drum sticks, as well as a link to our MCS Music website games if you click on the laptop. I have planted videos within the site, explaining how everything works, and reminding students that instruments are available to be borrowed from the Montague Library at the Wellness Center.

Please forward this link to the students, and please feel free to contact me with any questions. :)
