Friday Jan 28th- Winter Wellness day from PSB

Get outside and go for a walk, play with your children, take some photographs, go for a skate! Enjoy the day in the snow.

Friday is Hat Day, your child can wear anything for a hat. (One teacher wore a cat, another wore a mop head). Try to think outside the box and be creative.

Activities for Thursday, January 27th, 2022

The following activities should be broken up over the day. We do not expect the children to be sitting for more than 10 minutes at a time.

5) Read the little guided reader called Rain in the Country. Talk to your child about rain and what happens outside when it is raining. You can read the book to your child first and then your child can read the book to you. Please have your child point to each word as they read. Look at the pictures for clues to the story. (5 - 10 minutes). Count the words in each sentence. If you have time, let your child read Animal Sounds, Animal Coverings or What has this tail? to you again for practice. Your child could read these books to you as a bedtime story. Take these books with you in the car for your child to read. Encourage them to read the books for fun on their own.

6) Review all three Jack Hartman’s sight word video. Have your child dance and sing along to our sight words.

7) Sight Words: Use the sight words as flashcards and have your child name all the words they can. Put a check mark on the ones they know and put them to one side. If your child could name 2 or 3 sight words, then add 2 or 3 new sight words to the pile. Review all the sight words that your child has covered.

(5 - 10 minutes)

8) Have your child write their name at the top of the paper.

If you are running out of printing paper, then just use the plain white paper or the construction paper for the children to write on. Time to write some sentences. Take the sight words (I, my, you, ) and place them on the table in front of your child. Have them write the sentence I hear my Mom. They can sound out the word hear/Mom/Dad/Sister etc. or you can write the word love out for them. Some other sentences they can write are I hear my Dad, I hear my sister, I hear my cat, I hear my toy etc. (5 - 10 minutes)

9) Find the Beginning Constants worksheet in the second supply package. It has the letter B at the top and shows pictures of a flower, a bird, a bee, a baseball, a balloon and a set of drums. The sheets for B to Z are stapled together. Name the pictures for your child and have them circle the pictures that start with the letter B.

Have them do the letter C and D as well (6 minutes).

10) Check out the link for our Gym activities. If you have any energy left, feel free to check out the Music activities as well.

OPTIONAL ACTIVITIES:

Hi Parents: If your child is finding the hours long there are some sheets from the second supply package that your child could work on at home or take them to childcare to work on.

Find the sheet called Identify groups with more/fewer objects in the 2nd supply package. The first set is mice and the second set is ladybugs. Have your child look at both sets of mice and guess which one has the most without counting. Then have them count the two groups of mice and see if they were right.

Do the same for the ladybugs. Do the backside of the sheet as well.


Please have fun with the activities. Dance with your child to the videos, do the exercise activities in the gym videos with your child, draw a picture with your child and have them guess what it is. IF your child wants to change their background for the Google meetings:

When you are in the meeting, look at the 6 black circles under your picture. Choose the circle that has three dots in it. Click on the three dots. The fifth option is to Apply Visual Effects. Scroll down through the options and let your child chose what they like.

The only issue with using the backgrounds: if your child steps too far back from the camera, they disappear into the background.

They can also practice writing their sight words (a, and, I, in, is, it, look, me, the, you, can, go, for). Parents, you can try spelling the sight word aloud for your child to write or the children can copy from the sight word cards. (10 minutes)

Letter Recognition: First row has the capital T. Have your child circle the lowercase letter that matches the uppercase letter on the left. Have them do both sides of the sheet.

Trace the Letters: Have your child trace the uppercase and lower case letters. A parent or an older sibling can call out any letter and your child must point to the letter and then trace the letter.


Please have fun with the activities. Dance with your child to the videos, do the exercise activities in the gym videos with your child, draw a picture with your child and have them guess what it is. All About ME sheet

Have your child fill in their name. How old they are. Whether they are a boy or girl. Help your child read trough the list of action verbs at the bottom and pick one to add to the I like to sentence.

Alphabet Uppercase Letters: Have your child write the uppercase letters. This sheet does not need to be completed all at once. Your child could write 5 letters, then do jumping jacks, they could write 5 more letters and then run in a circle, they could write 5 more letters and then sing the ABC song etc.


Please have fun with the activities. Dance with your child to the videos, do the exercise activities in the gym videos with your child, draw a picture with your child and have them guess what it is.
