We have finished our block 4 sounds, so we have completed all of the grade 1 sounds for the year. We will continue to do some review over the next few weeks.

We have caterpillars in our class and we will watch them grow into butterflies and then set them free outside. We will be doing some descriptive writing on the butterflies as well.

Please do not send spray sunscreen (the fumes are strong and it makes the floor slippery). Also, just a reminder that teachers cannot apply sunscreen, so the students should be able to do so on their own if they are bringing it to school. Thanks for your cooperation!

Hi Parents,
I hope you all had a wonderful Victoria Day weekend! The students are continuing to learn so much in 1G. Here is a glimpse at our week ahead.
Language Arts
This week we will be finishing our Block 4 sounds. Our last sound that we will be working on is "ph" (phrase, dauphin, photo) That means that that we will be finished of all the Grade 1 sounds. For the remainder of the year, we will do some review of the previous lessons and sounds, to help with consolidation, efficiency and fluency.
In writing we are continuing to work on "Les petits moments" or little moments in the children's life. The students are compiling several little stories.
We will be working in our literacy centres.
We will be doing independent reading everyday.
Math
We are working on counting forwards and backwards from 1-100.

We are working on subtraction. We have learned about many different strategies the students can use to support them such as using a ten frame, counters, bead bracelet, pictures. We will continue to practice this and then we hopefully will start story problems later in the week.

This week is French week at Glen Stewart. We will be doing a few activities in class to celebrate. We will also be attending a little concert on Thursday. The Music Man (Michael Pendergast) will be putting on a little concert for all students in the school on Thursday.
Many were also coming in from recess before the break with wet socks. Please pack a couple extra pairs as we do go out even if the playground is wet. As much as I tell them to stay out of the water it doesn't help.

Happy New Year! We had a wonderful first week back to school getting into the swing of things. I am trying to enforce more consistency in speaking French in the classroom both to myself and to peers as this is so important for oral language progression. I will soon start a reward system to help so stay tuned. Here is what we will be working on in class this week.

Christmas Concert: Our concert will be taking place on December 11th at 1:10pm and 6:00pm. Each student received 2 tickets per show last week. If you have any extra tickets could you please send them in ASAP. We want to redistribute to those you may need them. If you do need extra tickets please reach out to our principal, Vanessa Dunn. Students are to come dressed in their best concert attire both in the morning and the evening. For the evening concert, I ask that students arrive by 5:30 and simply come down to the classroom (parents can head to the gym and find a seat for the concert).

Hi Parents,
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I can't believe it's December. It's going to be a busy month! Here is a glimpse of what we will doing this week:
Language Arts
We have been working on our second set of sounds. They are mostly blended sounds which consist of 2 sounds together. This week we will be working on the eu sound. We will also continue to review all the alphabet letters and sounds that we have studied so far.
This week we will start discussing Christmas vocabulary.
We will be will be doing some writing in connection with Christmas.
We will be working in our literacy centres.
We will be doing independent reading everyday.
Math
We are working on counting forwards and backwards from 1-40
We will be working in our Math centers.
We have been working on comparing numbers and will be wrapping that up.
We will also start learning about 2D objects.
Homework – Hopefully the homework is going well. Please continue to review all the tasks and aim for about 15/20 minutes a night.
Important Information
Report cards will be going home this Wednesday, December 4th.
Later in the week there will be a permission form coming home for another field trip that we will be taking. We are going to a French magic show on December 12th at the French school. There will also be a $2 fee for the bus that you can also send in with the permission form.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! We have a short but busy week ahead. Tomorrow is going to be so much fun with our field trip to Orwell Corner. Please make sure to dress your children warmly with a winter jacket, hat, and mitts. It is getting colder out! On Wednesday we will be attending our annual Remembrance Day assembly.

We have super busy week ahead with Halloween! We have some fun activities planned, including a class party on Thursday. If you are interested in sending in a treat please send me an email. Treats must be peanut free. The students are allowed to dress up in their costume but there should be no masks or weapons.

· The students are using specific sentence starters words like, C'est, Il ya, Regarde, J'aime, J'adore and Voici to help them
create sentences with specific vocabulary.
· We are beginning a Monster art/writing project connected to Halloween.
· We will continue practicing our printing of lowercase letters using the correct formation.
Math
· We are working on counting forwards and backwards from 1-30
· We are working on Representing numbers
· We are continuing to represent numbers through pictures and number lines.
Homework – How did the homework go? Will will continue this week. There are around 4 tasks the students need to do and you can divide up the tasks how you would like throughout the week. Please aim for a task each night or if there is a busier evening you can group task together on 1 night, if that works better. Please don’t do more than 15/20 minutes of homework per night. Hi Parents!
We had a great first two days of grade one! We are learning lots of new routines, building friendships and getting to know each other. This week we will continue to practice routines and establish expectations. I'm looking forward to our first full week together! Here is a glimpse of what we will be doing this week:
Language Arts
We will be reviewing coulours and the letters of the alphabet
We will be starting a sound/phonics program that will review sounds more explicity. We wil begin by reviewing the sounds for the leters Ii,Ll,Oo,Aa,Tt,Nn
Math
We are reviewing numbers 1-10
We will spend some time each afternoon in activity centers, where the students will play in groups with pladough, puzzles, blocks, rings and jenga.
