My name is Mary Ellen Tonita and I was born and raised here on Prince Edward Island. I live with my husband Paul and our big lovable husky Dante. I enjoy travelling, watercolour art, and spending time with my family and friends. I am ecstatic to be teaching your child for the 2021- 2022 school year! This is my 10th year teaching, and I have been at Stratford Elementary for the past 6 years.
Both of my degrees were taken at the University of Prince Edward Island.
My goal as a teacher is to provide a warm, safe, respectful environment that fosters educational growth and encourages students to ask questions and acquire new knowledge. It is important to me that every member of our class feels heard, understood, and cared for. Student-teacher rapport has always been a priority in my classroom, and I feel like this is what led my previous students to nominate me for PEI's Hot 105.5 Hot Teacher of the Month Award! In 5G we work on cooperation, respect, compassion, empathy, and patience. I encourage my students to look out for each other, like a family, as we make many connections to the parallels of our classroom with our broader communities. "Treat others as you want to be treated" is the golden rule and is paramount in my classroom. As a teacher, I am caring, understanding, and flexible with teaching methods. I look forward to spending the year with your child!
