A classroom is a learning environment.
My classroom management strategy involves a yellow and red card system, influenced by the game of soccer, that I developed to abide by the code of conduct for students set by EWS, the PSB and the Department of Education. The yellow card is placed on the student’s desk when the student is disrupting the positive learning environment. The red card is then placed on the student’s desk if he/she continues to disrupt. A call will be made to the student’s parent/guardian and he/she will then meet with me over lunch to explore strategies to assist in his/her learning/behaviour.
A student will receive a red card directly without receiving a yellow if:
A warning/yellow card has already been given to someone else for the same circumstance;
If the student interrupts a lesson in progress.
To avoid yellow then red cards, students must:
Come to class prepared to work.
Be on time.
Use polite language.
Listen, participate and cooperate.
Be courteous, kind, honest and fair.
Care for school property and the property of others.
Show respect for yourself and others.
If necessary, the Administration will remove any student who continues to disrupt the learning environment.
May and June will see the red card only for classroom management as students had all year to adapt to the learning in a classroom.
