Welcome to Grade 1! My name is Jennifer Kelly. I have been teaching for 30 years mostly in grade 1. We presently have 12 students in our class. We are very lucky to have Kelly Murray and Lauren Willis as our Educational Assistants and Student Attendant, Emma MacNeil.
We are committed to supporting student well-being and reinforcing social-emotional skills (SEL) like emotional regulation, empathy, and responsible decision-making. Westwood Primary School is one of 19 schools on PEI who are currently piloting a project called Positive Behavior and Interventions and Support (PBIS). PBIS and SEL share a common goal: to nurture students not only academically but also emotionally and socially. Safety, Kindness and Respect are the three core values at the core of our Westwood Behavior Matrix.
Please take time at your convenience to look through our 1A Google Site as there are many activities that we are doing in the classroom that can be reinforced at home to strengthen student learning.
The link to our 1A Google Site can be found on the Westwood School Website under "Classroom Google Sites".
Homework will begin in September with a folder for practicing Fundations skills. In October Students will take home another homework folder and 2 books (1 new & 1 old) every night. Student should be taking their blue homework bag to and from school everyday.
I will send home students' Google usernames and passwords in October in their Homework Folder. Students will need this information to assess the Boom Cards.
Please make sure your child has utensils in their lunchbox if they are ordering from the Hot Lunch Program or PEI School Food Program as they are not provided.
Also please make sure your child has a filled water bottle everyday.
Please make sure your child has headphones for using the Chromebooks at school. They can be found at the Dollar Store.
