Hi parents/ guardians!
My name is Mme. Elizabeth and I am so happy to be spending the year in 2I!
I received my B.Ed from StFX in 2016 and have been teaching at the elementary level ever since! I have had classes in grade 3, grade 2, grade 1 and now I am back in grade 2!
This is my 5th year teaching at Westwood Primary. I'm excited to see what this year has in store for us as a class!
Homework
Your child will be coming home with a duotang and a book to read (the first will be one that they made!) in their red homework bag beginning next Monday, Sept. 25th.
Please do not spend too much time on homework, it is simply for practice and for your child to show you some of what they are learning in class! It should not take more than 10-15 minutes a night!
Homework will come home on Monday and should be completed by Friday.
Classroom
Each student should bring a water bottle with them every day. There is a bottle filling station.
If you haven't already, it always a good idea to send a bag of extra clothing. It is a very wet time of year and the kids often come in from recess with wet socks or pants, it is nice for them to have a change of clothes available!
Please do not send toys to school, it can be very distracting and the students get very upset if anything ends up lost or broken.
All students will have bus tags / pickup tags attached to their backpacks, please do not remove these. If their plan changes just send a note and we will adjust the tags at school!
Drop Off/ Pickup
School begins at 8:30 with the first bell at 8:20. Students may be dropped off no earlier than 8:05, this is when staff begin to supervise the bus area. Supervision ends at 8:30. If you are dropping your child off after 8:30 you will need to walk them inside and sign them in at the office for their safety.
If your child's after school plan needs to change, please ensure you have sent a note or called the office prior to 1pm.
Parents will no longer be meeting students inside the foyer after school. Parents are instead asked to park in the visitor parking (old tennis courts) and wait outside the front entrance for students to be dismissed.
As a class we exit our hallway door behind the school and do bus drop offs first. Montessori and pick-up students stay with me until all bus students have been dropped off. We then make our way to the front of the school to meet parents at the pick-up area and Montessori students join their group out front as well. Parents are not permitted to enter the bus area or pick-up students from the playground areas, you are welcome to take your kids to play after you have met us at the designated pick up area in front of the school!
Lunches/Snack/Breakfast program
Milk must be ordered online through the hotlunches program. Please do not send money to school!
Please make sure your child comes to school with the cutlery necessary for their lunch and snacks, we no longer keep plastic cutlery.
Also please refrain from sending lunches that need to be heated!
Westwood is looking for volunteers to help run the Breakfast Program, you can contact the office if you are available!
Newsletter
There is a monthly Westwood Newsletter that will be sent to you through PowerSchool and that is also posted to the school's website! This will contain any and all important dates and information.
