ECO NEWS

Eco Schools Green Flag

The Eco-Warriors were proud to receive the Eco Schools Green Flag, which we are planning to display in school. Some of the Eco-Warriors explained what it means to achieve the award.

Darcey (3S): I feel good, we are quite Eco friendly at Dundonald.

Avir (4SC): We do lots of green activities and we help the environment.

Zoe (4SC): We really care for nature and we've been doing a lot of things to be green.

Rory (4S): It feels good getting the Green Flag and I think we need to try and keep it forever. If we lose it, we will need to try harder to be greener.

Sarah (4S): We need to continue to look after the future and respect nature.

Elias (3B): We need to try and stop deforestation. The Amazon is being destroyed.

We are excited to have signed up to the Let's Go Zero campaign. The idea is to unite schools in working on becoming carbon zero by 2030. Key impact areas include energy use, travel, waste, water, procurement, food and school grounds.

We would love to hear from parents and carers who may have ideas on practical ways we can try to move forward on this - please contact Helena Vokos via the school email address - school@dundonald.merton.sch.uk

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the recent Headteacher/ Assistant Headteacher Forums, please visit our website here if you weren't able to join.

Following from the forums we are reviewing our uniform provider and our arrangements for bikes/scooters on site . I will provide an update for you as soon as I can

Here's a few quotes/ feedback from the recent sessions;

  • Wonderful session. It was really clear and insightful. I love what you described on the equality and diversity section and all the hard work you are doing on content.

  • Doing the forum online is really helpful. It would be great if this could continue after Covid.

  • Really good to hear the reviews you are doing and also clarify the testing this year as I was not clear on this. Thank you, this session was clear and comprehensive.

  • Thank you - it's so helpful to get this window on my child's life at school & the excellent work the teaching team do.

This week's Rights Respecting Article is Article 24 - Health Care - ensures that every child has the right to the best possible health.
We are focussing on mental health, tapping into how important nature can be in improving this for us all. We also looked at how reflection can be another useful tool, allowing us some moments of calmness and stillness.
