Language of the Month

Dear Parents/ Carers,

It has been a busy week with the start of our Extended Provisions and Merton School Sports Partnership events which are back up and running and a big garden spring clean!

In this week's assemblies we were talking and learning about Ramadan and Eid. Children shared their knowledge of their religion and practices and are looking forward to their Eid celebration. Happy Eid Mubarak to all our families celebrating this weekend!

Article 30: makes it clear that children and young people who belong to a minority group have the right to share their culture, language and religion with other people in that group. Minority groups include: ethnic minorities.

I would like to remind all parents/carers that any child who has diarrhoea or sickness must been absent for 48 hours after the last bout of either due to any potential virus' bugs that can be spread in school. Please see NHS advice here.

The latest research report from Ofcom into children’s media use was published earlier this month, and it’s an interesting read. The internet has a huge influence on children’s lives and learning, and it’s really valuable to understand how they are interacting with it. You can view the report here.

Thank you to the parent who donated a fantastic football net which will be enjoyed and used by all children!

Have a lovely long weekend,

Fiona Duffy

Y6 TENNIS

Lila, Emily, David and Ihsan from Year 6 took part in a MSSP tennis competition today which they really enjoyed. Mrs Heravi accompanied them and said they were all very respectful and had a great time.

David (6M) I think that the tennis taught me that even if you feel that you can't do something because you have failed in the past it will just make you better. I enjoyed that everyone was really respectful to each other and enjoyed.

Lila (6R) I really liked that there was no competition and it was just for fun.

We would like to remind families of the possibility to apply for Free School Meals (FSM), if they believe they may be eligible.

If you have never applied previously and think you might now be eligible to Free School Meals due to a change in circumstances, please apply online here & find out more on our website here.

ECO NEWS

Spring Cleaning the Playground

A willing group of adults and children met on Saturday morning to 'spring clean' the planting beds around the school and tidy-up the pots in the playground.

Although no experience was necessary, the team definitely showed they were naturally green-fingered. They cleared old plant matter, removed weeds and added a few new plants. It will be exciting to see how things bloom in the coming weeks! Pollinators, such as bees and butterflies often overwinter in dead plant material, but they are starting to emerge now, so perfect timing for a garden clean-up.

A huge thank you to Lizzie Wright for organising the team and to everyone who volunteered.
