OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Our school community will provide a caring, safe and supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to be creative, challenged and happy in their work and play, and where United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) are respected and valued by all.

Language of the Month

Thai - pʰāːsǎːtʰāj

This Weeks Rights Respecting Assembly was celebrating and exploring cultural diversity.

Article 2 says all children have the rights set out in the UNCRC, and individual children and young people shouldn’t be treated unfairly because of differences.

Article 30 of the UNCRC makes it clear that children and young people have the right to share their culture, language and religion with other people.

What does cultural diversity mean at Dundonald?

Our school community includes:

  • Over 25 different languages spoken

  • Different religions

  • Different ethnic backgrounds (this is where people come from, their religion and the language they speak)

Parents/Carers of Children with SEND

Please note that we will be holding our ISP meetings on Tuesday 8th June.

We have decided to reduce the number of targets on each child's ISP for Summer 2 and Autumn 1 to two targets; this is to enable children to be in class as much as possible following the disruption with COVID.

We will be aiming to deliver as many interventions as possible in class and of course be using the 'inclusive strategies' to support your child on an ongoing basis.

Details of these meetings will be confirmed next week.

Summer term attendance expectations for schools

School attendance continues to be mandatory for all pupils and the usual rules on school attendance apply. This includes parents’ duty to ensure their child regularly attends school, and schools’ and local authorities’ ability to issue sanctions, including fixed penalty notices, for poor attendance. As restrictions begin to lift, we know some families may be looking to take holidays during term time. As usual, parents should plan their holidays around school breaks and avoid seeking permission to take their children out of school on holiday.

ROUND UP OF THE WEEK AT DUNDONALD

YEAR ONE

This week in Year 1, the children have been continuing to read Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin.

They have enjoyed taking part in lots of activities based around this story, including role play and making clay turrets.
We began by looking carefully at the form of a tower and made careful observational drawings in our sketchbooks of what we could see. We then explored how we could use clay to create the form of the tower. The children really enjoyed rolling out the clay and coiling it into layers. Next week, we will add Rapunzel's window with paint.
Henry - I pretended to be the wicked witch cutting Rapuzel’s (Geephia’s) hair.
Geephia - I enjoyed drawing inside my tower when I pretended to be Rapunzel.
Nina - I enjoyed making a castle out of clay.
Eliza - It was fun when I could dip my hands in the water and make the clay all smooth.
Philip - I loved rolling the clay into sausages. It was like a challenge!
The children have just discovered that Rapunzel manages to outsmart the witch and escape by making a ladder from her long golden locks. They can’t wait to find out how this fairy tale with a twist ends next week!

YEAR TWO - EXTENDED PROVISION

Year 2 have been making their own polar bears in art extended provision. While drawing, we looked carefully at the form of polar bears (looking at their long backs, legs and wide paws). We then made our own polar bears out of old plastic bags, newspaper and masking tape. This week, we began to cover the bears in Modroc. We will start to paint them soon!

YEAR THREE

In Year 3 we have made persuasive posters to Stop Deforestation. We have used the information we have gathered in English, Geography and Topic lessons this half term to create these posters with lots of facts and figures.
