Dear Parents and Carers,
As you may be aware from my communication earlier in the week, there has been a significant rise in confirmed cases of COVID19 within our school community. This includes both pupils and a rising number of staff. As a result of the increased number of cases and following advice from the local authority, we have needed to introduce additional COVID control measures.
In order to support us with this, we ask that communication to the school is done, wherever possible, via the telephone to the school office. In addition to this, children should be dropped at the school gates and parents/carers should leave the site immediately to reduce risk of unnecessary contact between families. Finally, we ask that when collecting your child, that you wear a mask whilst on the school site.
Best wishes,
Kate Taylor

'Come join us and share a book and some refreshments with your child.'
In Explorers Class, we have enjoyed our reading sessions with our new Little Wandle phonics books. We are learning to decode, use expression and answer questions about our understanding of what we are reading.
In Inventors Class, we have used the app 'Karate Cat' on the iPads in order to practice our grammar skills.
This week, in Year 3, Wright and Dyson Class have shown the learning behaviour of 'support and actively listen to others' when reading with one-another and organising vertebrates and invertebrates in Science.
In addition to this, Year 3 have solved problems involving the scaling of quantities. We have used bar models to help us understand it and then used our multiplication facts to solve it.
This week, Year 4 have used a range of different mediums such as chalk, pencils, water colours and crayons to produce different textures and patterns. We will apply these skills at a later date, when we produce our published outcome with inspiration from the Northern Lights.
Additionally, we have been worked collaboratively in our English to identify the features of a newspaper article and also in our maths, when we explored the expanded method for multiplication.
This week, Year 5 have used the core value of collaboration to build fraction walls in maths. We used these to help us to understand what fractions are and how they link to our division facts.
In addition to this, we have read together and applied our inference skills to read between the lines.
This week, Year 6 have been collaborating in their Kagan groups to produce mind-maps on The Transatlantic Slave Trade. In order to do this, they have drawn upon a variety of sources such as: their curriculum learning; book extracts and informative videos.
In addition to this, Year 6 have experimented with paint to produce monochromatic wheels. They will apply these skills at a later date, when publishing their final outcome.
This week, Edison Class have been using the Zones of Regulation to identify what impacts our emotions.
In Science this week, Jackson Class have been experimenting with different materials. We tested materials to observe which is best for carrying water. We confirmed our predictions and had fun at the same time.
Henson class have been hot seating with each other in Henson class interviewing each other in the role as Parvana to understand her thoughts and feelings.
We had a very informative parental engagement session on Wednesday about Antiracism. We discussed the ways we could raise awareness in our children and to encourage them to speak out against prejudices. As part of this session, we recommended reading lists that you and your child could read together.
Please continue to stay tuned for any more updates regarding Equality and Diversity at Delce Academy.
We have been working hard to map out the next two terms with different events that will connect our school community together. In order to get your opinions on current progress and for planning towards the needs of our community, we would like for you to complete this questionnaire:
