We will be engaging in a number of collaborative discussion and activity spaces where you will be engaging with your peers. It is essential that we all treat each other with care, love, and respect. While there will be times when we may disagree, you want to make sure that you are mindfully and respectfully disagreeing with the arguments presented. Personal or inappropriate attacks will not be permitted. You are encouraged to flag any inappropriate engagements or content and bring these instances to my attention. If you engage in repeated inappropriate engagement in our discussions, you will not be able to participate in course activities, which will result in a grade decrease.
Because this is an in-person course, you must attend the first week of classes. If you have not attended the first class, you will be dropped from the course.
Regular participation in our in-person activities is key to success and inactivity/lack of attendance at any point in the course will greatly hinder your opportunity for success. If you become inactive at any point during the course, I will reach out to you to discuss best course of action. However, it is ultimately your decision to drop the course, and I will not drop anyone after the first week. Make sure to review the academic calendar for important drop and withdrawal dates.
Most instances of plagiarism are a result of confusion, time, or misunderstanding, and I highly encourage you to come to see me if you feel tempted to plagiarize or are uncertain about citing information, so we can discuss your struggles and set you on a path for success.
The use of plagiarism in any assignment will result in an automatic grade of incomplete (missing) on the assignment. Please see me if you feel you have reached a point when you are tempted to borrow or purchase someone else’s ideas. Additionally, much of the plagiarism is accidental. Make sure you clearly understand what qualifies as plagiarism and that you clearly document all your outside sources.
Make sure to review the Cerritos College Guidelines
While turning your major writing assignments in on-time ensures that you receive timely feedback and sets up you up for success for the remainder of the course, there may be times when obstacles outside of our control get in the way, impacting our ability to get work on on time. Therefore, you are able to ask for extensions on any of your 3 major writing assignments and your literary blog project.
In order to request an extension, you will fill out a request form indicating your request and outlining your plan for completion and an updated submission date. The submission date cannot be more than 2 weeks after the original due date.
The final portfolio cannot be late and no extensions will be granted on this assignment.
