A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!
With this hot, dry spell we have been experiencing, I believe everyone is ready to welcome fall and some cooler temperatures. As we welcome fall, we are ready for some fall type activities! In the month of October, we are looking at the end of 1st quarter, student/parent/ teacher conferences, PTO Chili Supper and Trunk or Treat Night, PAT and Pre-K Pumpkin Patch Field Trip as well as Fire Safety Week.
October 13 marks the end of the quarter. Please keep an eye out for student grade cards which will be emailed or mailed (if no email) the following week. Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences are just around the corner on October 19th from 1–7 p.m. Students will have an early out at 12:05 p.m. that day. If they haven’t contacted you already, teachers will send home a letter soon to schedule your child’s conference. If you are unable to attend, please contact the school so that we may work something out.
Conferences are a perfect way to touch base with your child’s teacher whether he/she is struggling or doing well at school. When parents and teachers meet to discuss progress, it stresses the importance of education to your child. You will be able to view the goals set by your child and his/her progress.
· Again this year, each grade level has set a goal of 95% attendance. Please encourage your child to attend school unless he/she is seriously ill. It is always good practice to contact the office if your child does need to miss a day of school. Unless necessary, please try to schedule doctor appointments outside the school day.
· A 2nd goal that is worth repeating is our reading goal at Clopton Elementary! We have set a goal that by May 2018, 90% of students in grades K-5 will demonstrate a year’s growth in reading, while all students show progress. Students did very well last year and we have high hopes for this year. I encourage you to read aloud to your child. It is an essential component to language development and is one of the most important activities in preparing them to succeed as readers!
PTO will be hosting the annual Chili Supper Trunk or Treat Night on October 27. PTO has contacted most parents by now asking for volunteers. See article inside for details.
Several other events this month will be the PAT and Pre-K Pumpkin Patch Field Trip on October 12. See Miss Julie’s article for details. Fire Safety Week is coming up in October as well, October 9-13. We are scheduling a visit from the Eolia Fire Protection District during that time. Students enjoy seeing the fire engine and the firefighter gear as they learn about fire safety.
As always, if you have any concerns, please contact the office. I look forward to seeing everyone at conferences on the Oct. 19!
