Spring is in the air and we need to make some reminders about the school dress code. Please review this section of the handbook.
The Clinton Board of Education recognizes that dress can be a matter of personal taste and preference. At the same time, the District has a responsibility to promote an environment conducive to student learning. This requires limitations to student dress, grooming, and personal hygiene that could be disruptive to the educational process because they are immodest, disruptive, unsanitary or unsafe, could cause property damage, or are offensive to common standards of decency.
Students are prohibited from wearing, while on the school grounds during the school day, and at school sponsored events, clothing that exposes underwear, buttocks, or the breast of a female. This prohibition does not apply, however, to a costume or uniform worn by a student while participating in a school sponsored activity or event.
The student who fails to comply with this dress code may be offered chance to change clothing, sent home, or subject to other disciplinary action. Subsequent violations may lead to further disciplinary action.
Any clothing, accessory, symbols, jewelry, or other paraphernalia which depicts or suggests association with a gang, secret society, or fraternity shall not be brought to or worn at school or at school-sponsored events. Any other considerations will be determined by the individual school administrators. The school administration shall have the right to consider any current fashion to determine its acceptability for the school year. Some allowances will be made for such activities as prom, homecoming, and dances. Clarification of acceptability should be made prior to wearing the clothing to school. Faculty and staff are charged with enforcing the dress code.
A student shall not be disciplined or discriminated against based upon the student's natural, protective, or cultural hairstyle. A student’s natural, protective, or cultural hairstyle includes without limitation afros, dreadlocks, twists, locs, braids, cornrow braids, Bantu knots, curls, and hair styled to protect hair texture or for cultural significance.
No attempt will be made to dictate fashion styles as long as they are in keeping with district policy. It should be noted, however, that it is the responsibility of the student and parent that the student adheres to the dress code.
General:
1. Any clothing, jewelry, or accessories with decorations, patches, lettering, advertisements, etc, that may be considered hazardous, obscene, or offensive are not to be worn at school. This includes any clothing, jewelry, or accessories that may be used as weapons or having drug emblems, tobacco, alcohol or sexual references.
2. Crop tops, tube tops, halter, and spaghetti straps are unacceptable. Strapless dresses without jackets worn at all times are unacceptable. All shirts should cover the entire crown of the shoulder.
3. Transparent and/or see through material is considered unacceptable. Shirts or blouses must cover the entire torso at all times, even in movement.
4. The length of a skirt, dress, or shorts must be to the fingertips when the student’s hand is fully extended down the side of the student’s leg. When measuring skirts, dresses, or shorts that have slits, the length will be determined by the top of the slit.
5. Students shall wear pants, shorts, overalls properly at the waist—no sagging. Pants with holes above the knees must not reveal undergarments.
6. All students must wear appropriate shoes.
7. Proper undergarments should be worn.
8. Caps or hats are acceptable as long as worn properly and not a distraction to the learning of others. Hoods, beanies, or other items that cover the ears are not acceptable in the building due to earbuds and other technology misuse.
9. Cases involving profanity or gang-related apparel will be dealt with according to those specific policies.
10. No blankets are to be carried and/or worn during the school day.
11. Costumes or face paint are not allowed unless approved for special school events.

Before and after school program will begin Tuesday, September 2nd.
Available Monday through Thursday.
Before school tutoring is available starting at 6:40 a.m. to 7:40 a.m.
After school program runs from 3:30 to 5:15.
Limited transportation is available in the afternoon.
Sign forms are available in the office. Please let Ms. Treece or Ms. Alexander know if you have any questions about the program.
If your child would benefit from a weekend food bag, please contact the office. We have forms available to make sure your child is on the list if needed.
Please have all transportation changes called in to the offices before 1:00 each day. For the safety of students, we do not allow anyone to get on buses without a note from the office. Calling by 1:00 allows us time to distribute any changes to the students without delaying the buses.
We are having several complaints from our neighbors around campus. We need to remind everyone of afternoon procedures. There are two options for car riders in the afternoon.
Recommended is to meet in the arena parking lot where there is plenty of space.
Line up on Cedar Street behind the school.
a. Please pull all the way down to the stop sign or first available opening. Do not stop and block the road at the top.
b. Please stay on the road and off the grass of the residents.
