All children face problems from time to time, which can include feeling afraid to go to school, peer conflicts, ineffective study skills, worry about family matters, feeling depressed or anxious, or falling behind in school work, among others. Your Joel support team is here to help children, parents and teachers understand and address these concerns. We work with students to provide short-term, solution focused counseling in the school setting. We provide instruction to bolster social skills, increase self-regulation and anger management, and foster self-determination and optimism.

School psychologists are trained in education and psychology and aim to help children succeed academically, socially, emotionally and behaviorally. They work with teachers, administrators, support staff, parents and other mental health professionals to create safe and supportive learning environments for all students. School psychologists are involved in evaluations for special education services as a part of a multidisciplinary team. They can support parents by coordinating community support services and providing resources for families. School psychologists are involved in school-wide committees and positive behavioral support programs.
