English Language Arts

At Clinton Elementary School, we use Wit and Wisdom to cover our English Language Arts standards K-4. Wit and Wisdom is a high-quality curriculum that has been rated and proven effective. It aligns to MA standards and incorporates evidence-based research into daily lessons. Wit and Wisdom incorporates science, social studies, and the arts into each module.

Wit & Wisdom is composed of four modules per grade level, and modules are made up of 30 lessons covered in 6-8 weeks of study. Each module artfully explores a specific topic that allows students to develop a deep understanding of that topic while inspiring curiosity in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and language.  

With Wit & Wisdom, every text a student touches is authentic and of the highest quality. Students use these texts at every turn — to learn, and eventually master, essential reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Instead of basals, students read books they love to build knowledge of important topics and master literacy skills. 

Just as great literature provides rich content for inquiry and analysis, visual art offers powerful opportunities to build content knowledge. This teacher resource describes how analyzing visual art can boost literacy in all students and includes art lessons, an art glossary, and more.
