Health Screenings

Routine Vision, Hearing, Spinal and Acanthosis Nigricans Screenings

[See policy FFAA for more information]

Screenings will be conducted at the following grade levels:

  • Vision and hearing in prekindergarten, kindergarten, and grades 1, 3, 5, and 7.

  • Acanthosis nigricans in grades 1, 3, 5, and 7.

  • Spinal Screenings

Girls will be screened two times, once at age ten (or fall semester of grade 5) and again at age 12 (or fall semester of grade 7).

Boys will be screened one time at age 13 or 14 (or fall semester of grade 8 or of grade 9).

  • It is incumbent on schools to identify outliers (i.e., children promoted to higher grades or held back) and ensure their screenings align with appropriate ages rather than grades.

  • Students new to the District will be recommended for screening.

Exemptions

A student may be exempt from a test if the test conflicts with the student's religious tenets or the practices of his or her church, and the student or the student's parent or guardian presents a signed affidavit from the organization.
