CLASS OF 2021

Ashleigh Denny made history as the first female wrestler for Horizon High School. In the school's first-ever wrestling season, Ashleigh showed exceptional skill and dedication on the mat, paving the way for future female wrestlers at the school.

Ashleigh's talent was evident from the beginning, and she quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with. She became the school's first-ever girls district champion and regional champion, an impressive feat for any athlete. Her hard work and dedication paid off, and she continued to excel throughout the season, ultimately becoming the school's first-ever state placer in wrestling.

As a senior, Ashleigh continued to set the bar high for future female wrestlers at Horizon High School. Despite facing tough competition, she displayed unwavering determination and grit, earning a fourth-place finish at the UIL State Championships. After her season concluded she became the first Scorpion Wrestler to sign with a college to continue her career. Her impressive accomplishments in the sport of wrestling have left a lasting legacy at the school and inspired future generations of wrestlers to pursue excellence.

Ashleigh's pioneering spirit and unwavering commitment to the sport of wrestling have made her a role model for young athletes, particularly young women who aspire to succeed in male-dominated sports. Her accomplishments have inspired others to follow in her footsteps, and her legacy at Horizon High School will endure for years to come. Ashleigh is currently continuing her wrestling career at William Penn University.

ALL AMERICAN WRESTLERS

Fernando "Fernie" Villa is a name that will forever be remembered in the history of wrestling at Horizon High School. As a freshman during the school's first-ever wrestling season, Fernie made an immediate impact on the mat, showcasing a natural talent for the sport and a dedication to excellence that would become his trademark.

Fernie's accomplishments in his four seasons were truly remarkable, as he became the first male wrestler in the school's history to become a district champion, regional champion, and state qualifier. He set the standard for future wrestlers at the school and continued to excel throughout his high school career.

Over the course of his four years at Horizon High School, Fernie established himself as one of the top wrestlers in the state, earning the title of two-time state qualifier, two-time All-Regional, and two-time district champion. In 2022, he became the first wrestler from the school to earn All-American status by placing at Rocky Mountain Nationals, an impressive achievement that cemented his status as one of the best wrestlers in the country.

Fernie's dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed, as he was inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022, a testament to his contributions to the sport of wrestling and his lasting impact on the athletic community in El Paso.

As he prepares to take his talents to the collegiate level, Fernie will wrestle for Schreiner University starting in the 2023-2024 school year. His accomplishments on the mat have already established him as a legend in the wrestling community, and his future in the sport looks brighter than ever.
