Bil/ESL Program Overview
Goals of Bilingual/ESL Program
Our Bilingual/ESL programs will provide our students with instruction using second language acquisition methods which instill confidence, self-assurance, and a positive identity with their cultural heritage.
Students in the Bilingual/ESL program will be provided intensive instruction to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing through the use of the English Language Proficiency Standards to ensure that students master the required essential knowledge and skills along with higher-order thinking skills.
The Dual Language program aims at students attaining full proficiency in Spanish as well as English. The model provides instruction in literacy and academic content in the primary language and in English for all core content areas by using second language acquisition methods. Our Dual Language One-Way program is a 50-50 model (English/Spanish).
Our ESL/Pull-out program aims at students attaining full proficiency in English. By providing English language development and academic content that is linguistically and culturally responsive during English Language Arts and Reading courses. Students receive instruction by an ESL teacher in a pull-out or inclusionary setting.
Language Proficiency Assessment Committee will meet to review the home language survey, Identify, Assess, Convene, Notify, and if parent approval is received, place the student in the Bilingual/ESL program. At the end of the school year, English Learners are considered for reclassification if the student meets the criteria.
LPAC will continue to meet throughout the school year to monitor student academic and language proficiency and make assessment decisions for English Learners.
Professional Development will be provided to our Bilingual/ESL teachers as well as other content and elective teachers to gain a deeper understanding of research-based sheltered instruction practices.
Continue to keep our parents informed of the Bilingual/ESL program benefits and provide educational opportunities for our parents to participate in throughout the school year.
Nurture and build community partnerships that will enhance our Bilingual/ESL programs in Clint ISD.
