What is ALL HANDS?
ALL HANDS is a 10-session curriculum to strengthen community-driven preparedness for climate disasters in California. Read all about ALL HANDS here.
What is the Trainers' Training?
In Oakland, from May 14 - 16, 2026, the ALL HANDS project team will train a set of trainers from up to 10 place-based teams from California climate vulnerable communities. The purpose of the trainers' training is to equip teams to offer the ALL HANDS curriculum back in their communities.
What are the desired outcomes?
We aim for each team participating in the trainers' training to emerge with key ingredients needed to offer ALL HANDS back home, including:
a shared understanding of the knowledge, skills, and values that inform ALL HANDS;
the curricular materials, including digital & customizable modules in English and Spanish;
the planning materials, including a digital & customizable workbook of templates for logistics and budget planning;
an internal assessment of team strengths and statewide network relationships upon which to call to fill gaps; and
an initial plan towards implementation back home.
This trainers' training is intended for teams who…
seek to implement ALL HANDS within their own community;
are there on behalf of a climate vulnerable community within California; and
can attend in groups of 2-4 people who work together as part of a place-based team.
ALL HANDS welcomes teams composed of representatives from the community (e.g., resident leaders or staff in community-based groups, organizations, or hubs), facilitators or intermediaries that work within the community, and lastly, when applicable, university-based researchers or facilitators from California institutions of higher education with whom the community has an existing working relationship.
While your place-based team may be as large as your team needs it to be, for the purposes of the ALL HANDS trainers’ training, we ask teams to identify a mix of at least two and up to four members to commit to participating in the ALL HANDS trainers' training activities on behalf of your team.

The 2.5 day trainers' training will take place...
Thursday, May 14, 2026 (5:00 - 7:00 pm),
Friday, May 15, 2026 (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), and
Saturday, May 16, 2026 (8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
Trainers' Training Logistics
The trainers' training takes place in Oakland, California.
The training venue and hotel lodging are centrally located downtown near public transportation and within walking distance of one another.
The opening evening reception and first training session on Thursday, May 14, 2026, includes heavy appetizers. The full day training sessions on Friday and Saturday, May 15-16, 2026, include breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
Teams not local to Oakland will be offered up to two complimentary standard hotel rooms based on stated need. Each room contains two queen beds. Parking and ancillary charges not included.
The trainers' training is free of charge, but participants need to provide their own transportation to and from the training venue as well as cover ancillary expenses outside of the lodging and meals stated above.
Accessibility and Belonging
The trainers' training is in English with simultaneous interpretation into Spanish. The training practices and teaches principles of language justice. If interpretation into more languages is needed, the ALL HANDS project team will endeavor to meet this need.
The training venue and hotel are ADA accessible. We will practice community care to protect public health.
Upon registration, each participant will be invited to communicate accessibility needs including, e.g., disability, language, childcare, and dietary needs.
Upon registration, each participant will be invited to communicate whether they would like to opt in to receive a one time modest electronic gift card incentive after the trainers' training to honor their participation and to help defray ancillary costs of participating.
How Do We Apply?
The trainers' training accommodates up to 10 place-based teams.
Teams will be selected by team application.
The digital application form will be posted on this website and available January 12 - February 20, 2026.
Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a rolling basis, with the aim of notifying all applicants of their application status by March 13, 2026.
Once the trainers' training cohort is confirmed, participants will receive registration information.
