Having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed.

  • Completing all assignments on time
  • Being well prepared for tests and quizzes
  • Coming prepared to class (having supplies with you)
  • Asking for help or clarification when you don’t understand something
  • Correcting and learning from your mistakes

  • Not completing assignments
  • Not working to the best of your ability
  • Being unprepared for class
  • Being satisfied with just passing

Respectful

When you are respectful, you show consideration for how your words and actions will affect other people. When you are respectful you value each other’s point of view, even if you disagree. When you are respectful, you are polite and kind and treat each other with dignity.

Examples

  • Listening when someone is talking to you
  • Following adult directions
  • Cooperating with adult directions
  • Taking into consideration other people’s feelings before you say or do something
  • Using an inside voice
  • Asking before touching or taking other people’s belongings

Non Examples

  • Taking other people’s things
  • Vandalizing other people’s property (like writing on someone’s book)
  • Walking away when someone is talking to you
  • Disregarding people’s requests to do something
  • Disregarding a procedure or routine that is established

Empathetic

You are empathetic when you are self-aware of your own feelings and can distinguish between your feelings from someone else’s; you can understand another person’s situation, feelings or motives (even if you don’t agree with them); and you can regulate your emotional response to the situation

  • Counting to 5 before saying something
  • Asking for help
  • Leaning about other students in the class by asking them questions about themselves or their family
  • Offering to help another students when they are having a difficult time
  • Using “I” statements that describe how you feel

Non Examples

  • Hitting or kicking others
  • Talking when teachers or staff put up all five
  • Criticizing differences or vulnerabilities
  • Bullying others
  • Making fun of other students
  • Calling others names
  • Focusing only on your opinion
