Sport

All boys and girls are exposed to several seasonal sporting codes throughout the year, allowing for maximum participation in various codes and creating opportunities for our children to develop all-around skills. Sports at Clifton are compulsory in all grades.

In the lower grades, Grades 1 and 2, our focus is on participation. We foster fundamental skills needed for a particular sport code as well as promote having FUN. We enter boys’ and girls’ teams into mini-festivals throughout the year which take place on Tuesdays. Practices form part of the school day and occur twice a week, on a Tuesday and Thursday, between 1.00pm and 2.00pm.

In Grade 3 our sports codes become slightly more competitive. Fixtures take place on most Wednesdays and Saturdays. Those who compete in swimming or cross country have seasonal fixtures on Thursdays or Fridays, too.

Girls participate in tennis, hockey, soccer and basketball.

Boys participate in cricket, soccer and hockey and are introduced to rugby In Grade 3.

Houses

The three schoolhouses are Crusaders, Barbarians and Trojans. On entry into Clifton, each child, taking into account possible family allegiance, is allocated a house.

Throughout the year, various inter-house sporting events take place, such as the Mini-Olympics and Gala. House points are awarded to the house. A running total of house points is tallied and announced after the event in Chapel, creating a healthy sense of competition and camaraderie.
