Minor Misdemeanours Procedure

Minor misdemeanours could include, but not be limited to, the following:

 

All misdemeanours are to be addressed using the 4 questions approach:

 

Once it has been established that the person/s harmed could be the teacher/ pupil/ school etc. it is important that the restorative process begin immediately – right the wrong. 

 

First offence: Right the wrong (Verbal correction)

As examples:

Complete homework at tea break/ASAP 

Authentic apology for bad manners/ conduct

Address inappropriate wearing of school uniform immediately

Child to correct the above immediately

Establish reason for lateness – outline expectations going forward

 

Second offence: Right the wrong (Verbal reminder)

Follow first offence procedure 

Child chooses consequence from list (Drawn up by SP, below)

  

Misdemeanour 2 Choice Sheet

Community service (over one week, totaling 3 hours) to take place daily (either tea or afternoon duty, dependent on co-curricular program) from the following:

Lapha cleanup:

Tea break duty: Litter removal at the lapha and obstacle course, firewood gathering 

Litter collection:

Tea break duty: Target fields

Lost property duty:

Tea break duty: Gather lost property at tea break and repatriate with owners, sort lost property box

Assistance in the school dining hall:

Lunchtime: Clear tables, stack plates, wipe down tables, mop floors, empty bins

Assistance with the Estates team:

Afternoon duty:  Firewood gathering, Bugweed removal, litter collection

Assistance with the classroom cleaning team:

Afternoon duty: Vacuum classrooms, empty bins, straighten desks, clean boards

Corridor tidy & locker cleanup:

Afternoon duty: Clear litter, bags on hooks, sweep

Assist the sports department:

Afternoon duty: Tidy storerooms, get equipment out for practices, collect equipment after sessions, stock take

Library duty:

Afternoon duty: Cover books, tidy library, restock shelves

Cleaning at the Riding School:

Afternoon duty: Muck out stables, general cleaning and clearing

River cleanup:

Afternoon duty: Rubbish collection at the stream, removal of weeds, watering trees/ plants in the stream area


Third offence: Right the wrong (Consequence)

Class teacher and Deputy (Pastoral) informed. 

Constructive consequence meted and monitored by Deputy

It needs to be remembered that none of us are as good as all of us – we have to work together in rolling the above out. 

 

Incident Procedure:

To be followed in the event of an unexpected incident/s involving people or property within the school context, and which requires further action and/ or support to resolve.

Unexpected incidents may include potentially inflammatory situations regarding discipline issues within the classroom (theft, targeting/bullying), or matters regarding or perceived to regarding socially sensitive issues (race/ ethnicity/ gender/ culture etc.).
