Student Assistance Counselor

The Student Assistance Counselor's Role

The Student Assistance Counselor is dedicated to helping students navigate difficult situations that are impacting their emotional well-being and/or academic performance. The SAC provides counseling services and interventions that build upon students' individual strengths and helps coordinate referrals to outside resources when necessary. The SAC's role is different from the Guidance Counselor's role as their primary focus is on providing mental health support and promoting healthy lifestyle choices. The SAC is an excellent resource to discuss a variety of issues with, including but not limited to:

  • Feelings of depression, anxiety, and other emotional concerns

  • Drugs/Alcohol

  • Vaping/Smoking

  • High Risk Behaviors

  • Family Problems

  • Relationship and Friendship Issues

Signs of Struggle

  • Persistent sad, anxious, or "empty" mood

  • Feelings of hopelessness

  • Feelings of guilt, worthlessness, helplessness

  • Loss of interest or enjoyment in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed

  • Decreased energy, fatigue

  • Difficulty controlling feelings of worry

  • Difficulty concentrating, remembering, making decisions

  • Change in sleep patterns: insomnia, early-morning awakening, or oversleeping

  • Restlessness, irritability

  • Change in appetite: overeating or lack of appetite

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, speak to the S.A.C. or your Guidance Counselor immediately.
