Reading Information

Benchmark Assessment System (BAS)

All students are assessed using the Fountas and Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System to determine their independent and instructional reading levels. Teachers are able to observe reading behaviors, engage in comprehension conversations, and make informed decisions that connect assessment to instruction. The goal is to provide every student with books that challenge them enough to promote growth, but do not frustrate them with their difficulty.

Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)

The Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention is an intensive, small-group, supplementary literacy intervention for students who find reading and writing difficult. Students and teachers meet daily to improve literacy achievement of struggling readers. LLI provides instruction in reading, writing, and phonics/word study with engaging fiction and nonfiction leveled books and fast-paced systematically designed lessons.
