VibCon is a handy smart phone tool for machinery vibration analysis allowing instant conversion between commonly used units. Converting between units is often necessary to compare measured levels to vibration standards, previous data and for presenting levels in familiar units. These conversions are only valid for sinusoids - i.e., the units read from an FFT spectrum. Operation is simple. Enter the frequency of a peak in either Hz or CPM, then enter the measured vibration level. All of the other vibration units will instantly be calculated.
VibCon was developed in 1996 for Windows Computers. A revised version was released in 2003 with several vendor's badging, This version continues to run under Windows 10 and Windows 11, perhaps requiring downloading a DLL, or a warning about unknown software.
The VibCon Redux smart phone app adds a few features over the original. The first is ΔdB - Ratio conversion in the gray box on the left. This is very helpful when trying to explain that an increase from 110VdB to 116VdB isn't a minor increase in vibration level (the vibration level has doubled).
The second addition can be seen by clicking the menu symbol (3 vertical dots) at the upper right corner of the screen - gear and belt ratios. This handy utility helps you estimate shaft speeds if you enter in the pulley diameters of belt drive (and helps you know if it's a speed increaser or reducer), determine shaft speeds if you know the gear ratio, and show possible gear tooth counts knowing the ratio or with accurate shaft speeds.
