What is GoGuardian
GoGuardian is a suite of tools that Cleveland City Schools uses to help keep your student safe online. The device is filtered on and off-campus against a list of known bad sites. Additionally, sites are proactively checked each time one loads for bad content. Alerts are sent to administrators when appropriate for review. The entire suite includes:
GoGuardian DNS (On Campus Filtering)
GoGuardian Admin (On and Off Campus Filtering; AI On-Demand Filtering)
GoGuardian Teacher (A set of Tools for Teachers to Monitor and Block in the Classroom)
GoGuardian Beacon (Self-Harm and Mental Health Monitoring)
GoGuardian Parent
You can learn more about the tools below and find directions on how to use the GoGuardian Parent App here.
GoGuardian Parent App
Overview
The GoGuardian Parent app allows guardians to view the websites that student has visited (on and off campus) and gives them control to the websites a student can visit after school. Additionally, the GoGuardian parent app provides the guardian with the ability to pause or disable web browsing altogether (e.g., for after a student's bedtime).
The app is available on iPhone and Android. Learn more about how to use it below.

GoGuardian Beacon
GoGuardian Beacon monitors CCS-issued devices and analyzes online activity in real-time. When at-risk behavior is detected, Beacon packages insights and creates an alert with specific details about the activity for an administrator or counselor to review. Beacon notifies staff and escalates alerts until action is taken. Parents are alerted after hours if there is an immediate threat*, and the student can be messaged directly with critical resources.
*The parent is alerted via the primary guardian's email address Cleveland City Schools has on-file for the student in PowerSchool.
What is Blocked?
While no filter can be 100% inerrant, Cleveland City Schools blocks the following website categories:
Academic Dishonesty
Archives
Controlled Substances
Games - Gambling
Malicious Sites
Pornography
Sexual
Social - Chat Rooms
Additionally, Cleveland City Schools customizes these blocking categories with 125+ manual modifications to help fine-tune the system.
What if I'm Have Concerns About Website Availability/Filtering?
Cleveland City Schools makes every effort to keep your student safe online. However, no filtering solution (even an advanced one like ours that uses artificial intelligence to "read" the page and make blocking determinations) can be 100% accurate all the time.
If you have concerns about web filtering we encourage you to talk to your student's grade level BLADE Facilitator about your concerns:
K-5: Andrea Phillips - alphillips@clevelandschools.org
6-8: Emily Raper - eraper@clevelandschools.org
9-12: Eric Garner - egarner@clevelandschools.org
In addition to our filtering, parents can opt their student into the "Curated Experiences Group." This ensures your students can only access a very limited number of online resources. This restricted group shouldn't be assigned without careful consideration, and many parents opt out of it within a few days because of the heavy restrictions. However, this option may be right for some students. Please talk to your student's grade level BLADE Facilitator if you feel this group might be right for you.
