Parent & Family Engagement Policy
Springmore Elementary School staff is committed to the goal of “educating every child.” We believe that the education of children is a cooperative effort between families and schools. More importantly, we believe that the involvement of families increases the effectiveness of the school program and contributes significantly to the success of their children. The staff of Springmore Elementary School will strive to involve families in various activities throughout the year. Our staff defines the term "parent and family" to encompass all adult caregivers who may assist in decision making and provide support for a child's development and education.
SES will work to strengthen family engagement by:
Maintaining an open door policy that encourages parents and families to visit throughout the school and to request meetings to make decisions related to the education of their children by creating a positive school climate through personal, written and electronic communication.
Inviting all families to a Title I Annual Public Meeting at the beginning of each school year to receive information regarding the school’s Title I program, families' rights to be involved and to explain the program requirements & use of Title I funding (i.e. expenditures, family engagement activities, family transportation).
Providing opportunities for parent and family meetings and conferences throughout the year and at various times of the day.
Helping families understand state and local academic content, student achievement standards and proficiency levels students are expected to meet as well as academic assessment tools through parent workshop sessions, family-friendly handouts and parent–teacher conferences.
Communicating with parents and families through progress reports, weekly grade level newsletters, and monthly school-wide newsletters written in a family-friendly format (i.e. brief, bulleted, graphically appealing, and no teacher jargon).
Providing families with materials, information and training that best meets their needs through workshops and family engagement events that are “linked to learning” and based on school improvement plan goals for the year.
Providing materials aimed at increasing student achievement through the Family Resource Center checkout system and are customized to each student's needs based on data and teacher input.
Using Title I funds to pay for reasonable and necessary expenses associated with family engagement (i.e. transportation, child care, handouts, etc.) to improve attendance and quality of activity.
Having parent and family representatives on Springmore’s School Improvement Team that assist throughout the year in the planning, review, and enhancement of the School Improvement Plan.
Involving families in yearly meetings and surveys to plan, review and make improvements to Springmore’s Parent and Family Engagement Policy, Parent/Student/Teacher Compact, and School-wide Program Plan.
