Fluency

The most important thing to improve fluency is to have your child read. Look at the list below of different activities that you can do at home with your child.

1. Read aloud to your child to provide a model of fluent reading.

2. Have your child listen and follow along with audio recordings or online readings. A great website where students can listen to different people read different stories is Storylineonline.

3. Do paired reading. Take turns with your child on reading sentences, paragraphs, or pages.

4. Echo Reading: Read a sentence, paragraph, or page to your child. Then, have your child echo what you just read.

5. Repeated Reading: Your child can read the same short book multiple times.

6. Vocaroo Recording App: Have you child record themselves reading a sentence, paragraph, or page. Listen to the recording back with your child and discuss if they read fluently.
