In order to enroll in a class, the student must be 14 1/2 years of age by the first day of class.
Once the student has completed the classroom portion they will be scheduled to drive, beginning with the oldest students working down to the youngest.
A non-refundable driver education fee MUST be paid before the start of class. This fee along with a completed registration form must be turned into Mrs. Carter (in the main office ) for classes held at Shelby High School and to Mrs. Mitchell (main office) for classes held at the Cleveland Early College High School before the start of class. The fee is $65.00 cash only. All registration forms and payment must be received the Monday before the start of class. **The form without the $65 will NOT hold you a seat in the class - you MUST turn in BOTH to be guaranteed a seat.
Attendance is mandatory. Inappropriate behavior will result in the loss of your opportunity to take this class. Please consider extracurricular activities when registering for this class. A student can’t miss more than 3 hours of class time. If a student misses more than 3 hours of class time, they will be dropped from the class. The state of North Carolina requires that a student attends 30 hours of classroom training and 6 hours of behind the wheel training to receive a permit to drive. School dropouts are not allowed to enroll. See proper personnel in the school's main office with the CASH and completed registration form (available below) and you will be registered (Class size is limited). THIS CLASS SCHEDULE IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. If class is canceled for any reason, the schedule will be extended as needed to reflect the number of days missed. This includes, but is not limited to weather related issues. For questions contact Ronda Branch or Aubrey Hollifield.
