Parent Information
Title I schools are required to notify parents of their rights to receive certain information:
Parents may request information concerning the professional qualifications of their child's teacher (s) including the degrees held, certifications held, and whether the teacher is certified in the area he/she is teaching
Title I schools must notify parents if their child has been assigned, or has been taught for at least four consecutive weeks by a teacher who does not meet the "Highly Qualified" definition
Parents also may request information concerning whether or not their child is receiving instruction by teacher assistants, and if so, their qualifications
Parents may also request information regarding student participation in assessments mandated by the state or district.
The law states that parents in Title I schools:
Must be a part of developing a written parent involvement policy that is distributed to all parents and reviewed annually
Have a right to be involved in the planning and implementation of the parent involvement program in their school
Can receive materials and training for parents and staff to foster greater parent involvement
Must have the opportunity to jointly develop, with school staff, a school-parent compact that describes how parents, school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement
District Parent & Family Advisory Council
We are seeking parents and family members of children attending Title I schools to serve on our district's Parent Advisory Council. Council members will provide input and feedback to support and strengthen our Title I schools.
If you are interested in participating, please contact the principal at your child's school or our district's Title I staff.
Parent & Family Engagement
Parent and family engagement is key to a student’s academic success, therefore, promoting and enhancing family involvement is a priority for our Title I schools. Parent and Family Engagement events and opportunities offered at Title I schools are designed to enhance student achievement, support academic success at home, and provide access to resources and materials.
School specific Parent & Family Engagement Policies are available on individual school websites as well.
These letters are also posted on each Title I school's website. School/teacher specific Parent's Right to Know letters are distributed to families as well.
