Q: What is the overall schedule for the National Academy West?
A: See the Schedule here
Q: What should I wear for the National Academy West?
A: Business Casual Attire
Q: What should I bring with me?
A: This is a short list, including but not limited to:
Your fully charged cell phone
Your laptop & charger*
(*NOTE: Not all seats have available power, they are first come, first served)
A pad of paper & writing utensils
Reusable water bottle, if possible
OPTIONAL - A power strip, if easy to bring, could allow more to get access to power
Q: Where at the USC Hotel will the National Academy be taking place?
A: It will be on the 2nd Floor in the Ballroom (at the top of the stairs)
Q: Will there be alcohol served at the reception on Friday?
A: YES! Cleantech Open will provide 1 free drink per registered attendee. Each additional drink will have to be purchased from the bar, USING CREDIT CARDS ONLY. NO CASH ACCEPTED. Heavy appetizers will be provided.
Q: Where is the Thursday evening get-together? And at what time on May 29th?
YES! walking distance from the USC Hotel 6-8 PM - see Schedule - It's no-host, so you can buy your own drinks, appetizers, dinner, etc.
Q: When should we arrive / depart?
A: We recommend arriving Thursday late afternoon, May 29, so you are fresh for Friday, can join our optional, casual, no-host get-together Thursday, and you can also participate in the LA Coliseum Walking Tour Friday morning - which is completely optional with limited capacity.
In all cases, plan to be on-site, ready to go by 12:30 Friday, May 30.
We will finish by 1:00 pm Sunday, June 1, at the latest, so plan your departure flights accordingly, allowing for transport to the airport and moderate traffic.
Q: Any Flights / Hotel Advice?
A: For flights, we recommend arriving at LAX or BUR (Burbank) - both are about the same distance away and same cost using Uber, etc. Burbank is a simpler, smaller airport, but has fewer flights and is sometimes more expensive than LAX.
CTO has arranged a very favorable deal with the USC Hotel, getting rates down to $219 per night excl taxes, to pay on arrival. See Welcome email from Ryan for the link/code. Mentors and others wanting to stay in the hotel, please request the link/code from rhoover@cleantechopen.org.
Otherwise, Booking.com, Hotels.com, AirBnb, etc all have options, though be aware that the area around USC, especially to the east and south, can be sketchy, and generally any accommodations under $150/night would be pretty seedy - please check the reviews! We strongly recommend staying at the USC Hotel. You will not need a car during the Academy.
