Is this project partisan or affiliated with a campaign?
No. The MI-01 Meet the Candidates Project is non-partisan. All primary candidates from both major parties are invited to participate, and no endorsements are made. Currently there are Republican, Democrat, and Independent candidates that have made commitments to attend all 11 events.
Are these fundraising events?
No. These are public voter-education forums, not fundraisers.
Will all candidates be treated equally?
Yes. Events follow shared guidelines to ensure equal time, neutral moderation, and consistent rules for all participating candidates.
Who moderates the forums?
Moderators are selected by local host groups. They will be neutral facilitators who enforce time limits and conduct standards.
Can members of the public ask questions?
Yes, there will be provision for audience questions. The formats may vary by community but are designed to encourage thoughtful, respectful engagement.
Will the events be recorded or livestreamed?
Some events may be recorded or livestreamed. Campaigns and the public will be notified in advance when this is planned.
Why start so early in the election cycle?
Starting early allows voters to engage more deeply with candidates and issues before decisions are made, and it allows communities across the district to participate on a more equal footing.
