Current Quarantine Guidelines (subject to changes)

  • 7 days of quarantine + 7 days of self-health management

  • living with other people is not allowed

  • Students are suggested to stay in quarantine facilities booked by TKU.

  • Students will be having online sessions during the quarantine period.

Can you tell me a little bit more about the accommodations for the students in this program?

What level of proficiency in Mandarin should I strive for before starting the program?

We welcome students of any level of proficiency. Students without prior knowledge of Mandarin are heartedly welcome.

We also suggest students enroll in our teachers' class first to gain basic knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and secure a spot in the program.

Does the school also book the flight?

  • Students should book the flight on their own.

  • Due to the pandemic, we must ensure that all students arrive on the same date and take the same flight as recommended by the Taiwan CDC. Please book the designated flight to Taiwan.

Would there be a way to work a part-time job while abroad?

Students are not allowed to work part-time without a working permit. (Taiwanese students would not be the case here)

Are we still responsible for paying our home school's tuition while we are in Taiwan?

Whether students have to keep their student status during the exchange period, we suggest students get advice from the international office in advance.

Will we be going there to study Mandarin exclusively?

Or will we still be studying our major, just in a different place?

  • Credits earned after completion of the program will be determined by each student’s home institution. TKUCLC will issue a transcript and Certificate of Completion to students after completion of the program.

If we are doing the summer program and want to stay longer in Taiwan? Could we reapply for the fall semester during the summer one?

  • Students have to be aware of the visa type and the purpose of entry. (Taiwanese students would not be the case here)

  • Every entry is tied up with quarantine requirements. (subject to the regulations)

What expenses should I be expecting if I go?

  1. Program costs:

    • Tuition fees

    • Dormitory (long-term students only)

    • Visa: 4,640 NTD (160 USD)

    • Airfare

    • Quarantine station

    • Pre TOCFL test: 200 NTD

    • TOCFL test: 1,600 NTD


  1. Estimated cost of living in Taiwan: (Numbeo)

  • SIM card purchased at airport telecom booth: 1,000 NTD (valid for 30 days)

  • Food:

    • meals in inexpensive restaurant: 70-200 NTD

    • Mcmeals in Mcdonald: 99-150 NTD

    • coffee: 60-160 NTD

  • Transportations:

    • YouBike: 5 NTD for the first 30 minutes of use, 10 NTD per 30 mins within the first 4 hours, 20 NTD per 30 min between 4-8 hours

    • Bus: 15 NTD

    • MRT: 20-50 NTD

    • Taipei All Pass ticket (all-inclusive): 1,280 NTD for monthly use

  • Textbook:

    • 840 NTD 時代華語Shídài Huáyǔ (covering 4 months and above)
