CAST PA Notes

As I’m writing this, we’re in the weekend before Tech. Yesterday, we ran Act 2 with no line calls and staged the Curtain Call. That was the last time we were rehearsing upstairs before we move on-set. Everything seems to be truly coming together. The set’s just about done, the costumes have been finalized, the music has been edited, and the script has been memorized (mostly). We can’t believe we’re only two weeks away from opening night. For me, at least, as soon as September ended, everything sped faster than you could believe. It felt like rehearsal each day ended as soon as it began, and we never had enough time to get through as much as we would have liked to. I would like to thank all of the incredible actors, costumers, set builders, lighting designers, and sound technicians who have worked so hard to make this, hopefully, an incredible show. I hope you enjoy the show.

As you’re reading this, I’m probably be backstage, with so much anticipation I can hardly stand it. I might be thinking the same thing as you: How were those middle schoolers able to accomplish so much great work in such a short time? To tell you the truth: I have no idea.

I have been through this process many times, and each time, I think we might not be able to make it. But at a certain point, a sense of unity befalls upon the entire company and like magic, everything seems to come together at once. I felt that feeling earlier this week, and I’m sure I’ll feel it again before we get to opening night. I’m certain that as the stage lights come on and the show commences, you’ll feel it too. It’s the idea that everything is going to turn out excellently.

In typical me-fashion, I’ll end this with a bad joke. Why do you tell actors to break a leg… every play has a cast!

Thanks again, and again, I hope you enjoy the show.
