COSTUME PA Notes

What a production! As theater goes there's a beginning and an end but no one ever forgets one second of it. I am sad to say that you reading this means that Freaky Friday, the musical you are about to see, has come to a close. With all the hard work put into a production, it is very hard to say goodbye. You don’t know this but on the last night of every show there is sobbing backstage. Tears from the actors wanting to hold onto their characters that they have worked tirelessly to improve, tears from Tech Crew who are sad to say goodbye to those fun days in the shop, tears from Costume Crew who remember fondly getting poked and pricked with needles. And tears from the whole company because they have to let go of each other. The interesting thing about working on a middle school production is that you get to work with all grades and ages. People you would normally never even talk to suddenly find you to be an amazing person to be around. When the production stops, you have to say goodbye to not only the show but the friends you have made along the way that aren’t in your regular classes. Everyone secretly wishes they get to see their younger 6th grade or older 8th grade friend in the hallways.

Everyone has different experiences in theater, but for me, it’s the best days of my life. Getting to work with silvery fabric or drilling holes in wooden beams, no matter what it’s just fun. Although yes it is always fun, there is a lot of work that has to be put into it. The cast has to stay to 5:00 most nights and the crews work hard to produce the best sets and costumes there are. Even though it is a lot of work, it pays off. When you see the finished product on opening night, you feel a rush of joy and pride in the whole company.

No matter how hard we worked, none of this would be possible without Mr. Engelmeyer, Mrs. Miller, Mr. Kastner, and Mr. Urvan. On behalf of the whole company I would like to thank our amazing directors who are the glue of every show we do.

I hope you enjoy the show!
