There are many opportunities outside of RHS to develop your skills and repertoire as a musician. Many of them require audition and diligent practice; others just require you to show up and do your best. These opportunities are listed below in the sincere hope that many of you will take advantage of them.
The most competitive ensemble in the state. Only the finest, most accomplished musicians may enter this ensemble. Two rounds of audition are required. Audition requirements and additional information can be found at the GMEA website.
This orchestra, supported by Clayton State University and directed by Dr. Richard Bell is for outstanding Clayton County string musicians. Entrance to the ensemble requires an audition in late August consisting of scales, a solo, and sight-reading. Named in honor of William Grant Still, the dean of Black Composers, Still Waters Youth Sinfo-Nia of Metropolitan Atlanta (Sinfo-Nia), celebrates over 25 years of instructing thousands of young talented instrumental and dance students, as well as providing over 400 performances locally, nationally and internationally. MYSO is committed to developing the educational opportunities of Atlanta’s most talented young musicians by offering public performances, sectional coaching, solo performance opportunities, chamber music ensemble training, and scholarship awards for continuing music education.
