Magnet Schools Assistance Program Grant- STEMifying Clayton County

On October 1, 2022, Clayton County Public Schools was awarded over fourteen million dollars over five years to expand magnet programs in Clayton County.  The federal grant was submitted by our Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Monika M. Wiley, and is awarded to magnet programs focused on equity and accessibility.  As stated in the press release from the U. S. Department of Education, “The MSAP awards support efforts to develop and revitalize magnet schools with academically challenging and innovative instructional approaches designed to bring together students from different social, economic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds.”  Dr. Bryan Reese leads the MSAP team as Project Director in the School Choice Office.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona said, “Today, we’re investing in schools and communities that have shown a commitment to intentionally serving students and closing opportunity gaps based on race, place, and circumstance in America.  Every child has something to offer this country, and they deserve access to effective educators, inclusive and supportive learning environments, and innovative, engaging programs that unlock their potential and lead to success.' These grant awards will help communities reimagine our schools through a more equitable lens and raise the bar for how we serve students who too often get left behind.”

Clayton County Public Schools will focus on bringing magnet programs to M. L. King, Jr. Elementary, West Clayton Elementary, North Clayton Middle School, and Morrow High School, which will be expanding its magnet program to a whole school model.  We are excited about what the future holds for the students and staff at these schools!  To learn more about the grant, please go to: https://bit.ly/3e9qTl9 and read the press release from the U.
