Frequently Asked Questions
- 4 Guiding Principles
- Do whatever we can to ensure the health and safety of our students, staff, and community.
- Do whatever is possible to educate the children of Clay Local Schools no matter the issue that is impeding our efforts.
- Continue to provide food to the neediest of our children in whatever safe way is possible.
- Continue operating the district even in the event of a building closure.
- Are we coming back to school this year?
- The Governor’s order, as of April 20, states that we are out of the school building through the end of the year. Education should continue via online delivery.
- Since we will not return to school, what do I do with my Chromebook, textbooks, and other items after the school year?
- What about prom?
- The prom was scheduled for April 4. It has been postponed until further notice. The administration and the prom advisors have discussed various plans. We hope to be able to hold this event, but a date or time cannot be scheduled with the current uncertainty for the future.
- What about the Fourth Nine Weeks grading period? Can I fail the Fourth Nine Weeks grading period?
- Assignments are being given by the teachers and grades are being entered and updated as assignments are being completed.
- Yes! Governor DeWine has stated multiple times that he feels remote learning is at this time taking the place of face-to-face learning due to circumstances beyond our control. It is vital that you do your best to complete your work.
- If for some reason you are having difficulty accessing your work, then you need to notify your teacher(s) as soon as possible. (Please do not wait until late May to notify school personnel of your struggles.)
- If you are having issues with your Chromebook or technology, then call/text the technology help desk (740-280-2529).
- For those who participate in athletics in the fall, eligibility for the fall is currently dependent on grades and credits earned during the Fourth Nine Weeks grading period. Junior high students need five passing courses while high school students need five full passing credits in order to be eligible.
- Am I really responsible for work assigned while we aren’t in attendance at the building?
- Yes! Once again, our ***New*** Student Portal has been operational since we went to remote schooling on March 17. Teachers, administrators, and fellow students have made valiant efforts to reach each and every student to ensure access to the online Student Portal.
- If you are in need of assistance, or in a unique situation, then please notify a teacher, counselor, or administrator as soon as possible.
- Do my Fourth Nine Weeks grades really matter?
- Absolutely! If you are currently in the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th grade, and you plan to play any fall sport (cross country, soccer, or volleyball), then you must have at least five (5) credits for the last grading period of this school year.
- Athletic eligibility for fall sports has always been based on the last grading period of the prior school year.
- For all students, keep in mind, your fourth nine weeks grade and the final exam are part of your final grade for the year.
- Students must pass three (3) of the five grading periods in order to get credit for a class. This also impacts your overall Grade Point Average (GPA).
- Athletics. What about Spring Sports?
- OHSAA Commissioner Jerry Snodgrass with the directive from the Governor on April 20 (closure of school) was forced to cancel all spring athletic practices, contests, events, and tournaments.
- What about my athletic eligibility in the fall? As was stated in the preceding question, athletic eligibility for fall sports has always been based on the last grading period of the prior school year.
- What about our finals for each course?
- Finals will be given at the discretion of individual teachers. Like previous assignments within the grading periods, these may differ from teacher to teacher.
- What about state testing and assessments?
- State assessments will not be given this year. Additional guidance hasn’t been given in regard to how these missed tests will impact graduation points.
- Our plan at Clay will be to make sure we provide as many testing opportunities as we can in order for students to earn the points needed for graduation.

We will have our ceremony as usual on May 24. http://www.clay.k12.oh.us/grad2020
