Art is messy, so be prepared by having a set space ready!
Choose a workspace. A small table or desk is great, but a kitchen table will be just fine. Remember to cover your work area with a vinyl or plastic tablecloth or newspaper for easy cleanup! When painting, you might want to cover the floor as well!
Collect supplies! Kits like the one shown here are great for making art at home because they have a variety of materials all contained in one neat place! But you can also store supplies in a shoe box or plastic tub, or whatever you have available! Start small and add to your supplies a little at a time.
Some supplies you'll want to have on hand:
white paper and colored paper - crayons - markers - pencil and eraser - scissors
glue stick and white glue - watercolors - tempera paint - paintbrushes
plastic cup for paint water - old shirt or paint smock
old magazines or calendars for cutting - craft items like wiggly eyes, pom poms, pipe cleaners, etc.
