The following represent some of the common critiques of the old Progress In Mathematics (Sadlier) curriculum as voiced by teachers, families, and specialists across the organization.
Lack of focus on critical thinking and communicating reasoning.
Lack of resources for reteaching, remediation, and/or enrichment.
Lack of detailed solution guides.
Little to no support for parents as teachers.
Pacing is too fast and at times illogical.
Homework problems are not well aligned with example problems – large jumps in terms of difficulty.
Not well aligned to grade level standards.
The Progress In Mathematics curriculum was rolled out in 2015, by the time it is fully replaced in 2022 it will have served a typical curriculum shelf life.
Modern approach to learning mathematics including a focus on problem solving, critical thinking, communicating, and reasoning.
Robust suite of reteaching, remediation, and extension/enrichment activities.
Detailed teacher's manual including suggestions of how to respond to potential student misconceptions.
Improved focus and alignment of practice problem sets.
Parallel access to printed and digital materials allowing teachers and families to navigate between both options as needed.
